Take advantage of the abundance of park space in New Orleans and enjoy a meal or afternoon snack outside. We’ve rounded up our favorite spots to picnic across the city and where to grab some food to-go from nearby restaurants. Sit back and relax underneath a willowing oak tree or along the water.

The Fly

The Fly is a favorite spot for picnics and outdoor activities. Hidden on the levee behind Audubon Zoo, you’ll find plenty of space along the Mississippi River to kick back or enjoy a game of frisbee. On your way there, stop by for a pie from Pizza Domenica, or grab a poboy from Domilise’s.

Fun fact: In 2025, Domilise’s received Bib Gourmand Honors in the Michelin Guide for their high quality dishes, warm service, and affordability.

Magnolia Bridge/Bayou St. John

Many know of the Magnolia Bridge from movie sets or romantic dates, but this Mid-City spot is great for enjoying a bite to eat as well. Grab a po-boy from the iconic Parkway Tavern just a short walk away and soak up some New Orleans sun. Cool off with a snowball from Pandora’s.

Offering the most picnicking space in New Orleans, City Park is a load of outdoor fun. Spend the day exploring the four-mile park and find that perfect picnic spot underneath a live oak or along the Big Lake. Plan to pick up some food from nearby Clesi’s or Blue Oak BBQ.

The Lakefront is the perfect place for hanging out with family or friends. Watch the boats sail along Lake Pontchartrain and feel the breeze blow. Fly kites, fish or just enjoy the weather. Pick up a snowball from NOLA Snow or grab some drinks and food from Robert Fresh Market nearby. Just steps away, Blue Crab offers great frozen drinks as well.

Whether you’re watching the sunset or the ships pass, Crescent Park offers some of the best views of the Mississippi River. You’ll notice the park through the Bywater, close to several popular restaurants. Grab some smokin’ barbeque from The Joint and some cold beers from Parleaux Beer Lab to have a fun afternoon.

Nearby, Manolito has delicious sandwiches and cocktails perfect for the grab-and-go situation. You can also grab beignets to-go from Cafe du Monde to satisfy your sweet tooth.
