CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A new contemporary Japanese restaurant led by chef Makoto Okuwa is set to open this spring at Madison Square, adding another high-profile name to Cincinnati’s growing dining scene.

Suzu is scheduled to debut in May at the mixed-use development.

The 6,000-square-foot space will seat more than 200 guests and feature indoor and outdoor dining, a private dining room known as the Tea Room and a craft cocktail bar. It will also include Suzunone, a 12-seat Edo-style omakase counter offering a traditional sushi experience.

“Suzu is a celebration of Japanese culture and cuisine, where every detail matters,” Okuwa said in a media release. “It’s about honoring tradition while creating something vibrant and alive.”

The Cincinnati location marks Okuwa’s first restaurant in the Midwest. A protégé of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, Okuwa has more than 25 years of experience and has opened restaurants in Washington, D.C., Miami and Mexico City. He has also appeared on “Iron Chef America” and has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation for Outstanding Contribution.
