This is the first salsa that I’ve ever made and it came out fantastic! I can’t wait try other recipes! I loosely followed this recipe https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/tomatillo\_salsa\_verde/
Specifically I used:
18 tomatillos (1.6lb)
1 jalapeño
1 serrano
1/2 white onion (8oz)
1 heaping T minced garlic
1/4 bunch cilantro
1 lime (juice and zest)
1.5t salt
1.5t cumin
2T white distilled vinegar
This made about 40oz and the ingredients only cost around $4. That amount of refrigerated salsa at my grocery stores would cost 3-4x that and wouldn’t taste as fresh. I will be doubling the peppers next time for more heat, maybe even throw a habanero in. My favorite jarred salsa from the grocery store is Mrs. Renfros green jalapeño salsa. It has a very vinegar-forward tang to it that I enjoy, so I’ll probably add more vinegar next time.
I also made creamy jalapeño hot sauce this night that is also awesome (in 3rd pic). If anyone is interested here’s that recipe https://peppergeek.com/creamy-jalapeno-sauce/
I’m curious if you all have any secret ingredients that you add to your salsa verdes. Let me know in the comments.

Looks pretty good. I would definitely bump the heat with 2-4 more of each pepper, but that’s just me. I don’t put habs in salsa verde.
Did you roast the tomatillos and peppers? Or boil? You’ll get different flavors from each.
I like to add some neutral oil (like avocado) and half an avocado to the mix while blending to smooth things out.
I usually do a lower ratio of tomatillos, eg:
7 tomatillos to 2 jalapenos and 1 serrano…
3-5 cloves garlic,
boil all those ingredients for 11 min or so
throw in the blender and add salt, pepper and cilantro to taste
You can throw in onions too,
if you are gonna boil the onion, use a yellow onion, if you want it raw, use a red one
We are opposites.
Today I am making one with 8 Jalapenos and 1-2 tomatillo.
To each their own!
