It’s that time of year when the soft serve at McDonald’s turns green for the return of the Shamrock Shake and McFlurry. The fast-food chain will add the returning desserts to its menus nationwide starting on Feb. 17.
The iconic Shamrock Shake is made with McDonald’s vanilla soft serve that’s blended with Shamrock syrup and topped with whipped cream. The Shamrock McFlurry combines vanilla soft serve with Shamrock syrup and mixed in with Oreo cookie pieces.
The desserts will be available at participating locations nationwide for a limited time. A portion of every shake sold goes to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The Shamrock Shake was created in 1967 by Hal Rosen, a Connecticut-based McDonald’s owner and operator. The shake debuted in select locations in 1970, but wasn’t available nationwide until 2012. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the shake’s national debut, McDonald’s introduced the Shamrock McFlurry.
The desserts return to menus each year to help celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
