Opened it with friends as a treat.
Deep gold colour and it was probably past its prime or at least waning. Not sure how well it had been stored, but it was fun to open a wine from the last century.
Lots of apples and pear notes, some hints of honey, but not a lot of complexity. The acidity was high and made it feel bright and yet mellow. 13.5% Alcohol.
It was served a bit cold but it opened up after warming up.
Got one more bottle left.

Interesting that you post the fading note, because I had one of these a month ago and six months ago – one was an ex Chateau bottle that was in perfect peak form, the latter tertiary already and far more amber brown than gold. The coloring in yours leads me to believe it might’ve been one of the ex Chateau releases in 2024 – where/when did you get it? If you’re still getting good fruit, it couldn’t have been past peak! Sauternes can hold for decades.
I found the ex Chateau bottle to be a wonderful expression of Sauternes, in a perfect spot between primary and tertiary flavors/scents.
The wine is fantastic for sure, but I just want to commend whoever took this picture.
I know next to nothing about photography, but I kept looking at this a lot longer than I had to.
All the little items on the table and in the background are in perfectly normal places while also being distributed across the frame of the photograph in a pleasing pattern, and the bottle looks like it’s glowing, which is such a cool way to kind of visually represent food and wine pairing.
When your bottle of Sauternes is glowing, all the little things you enjoy along with it become more artistic too, even from where they already were.
