I’m moving house so took my Kj apart… and I found this 😭 is it game over? Anything I can do? I had noticed the hinge had been a problem for a while, could never full close flush which left a gap at the back.

It was like that before you took it apart? Then you should be able to reassemble it and the condition would be the same as before, right?

In any case, I would be surprised if this were unworkable. No experience with this, but maybe reach out to KJ support and see if they have recommendations.

Or reach out to JJGeorge and see if they think you can use a repair kit on it.

No I had some similar damage to mine last year. While mine wasn’t spread as much around the rim as yours, it was similarly chipped right around that cutout as yours is and along the rim a bit. Basically all I did was just fill it in as much as I could with high heat fireplace cement and got back to cooking. I don’t even think that was really all that necessary. As long as most of the rim is in good shape especially on the top and inside, then it should be fine.

I did have to replace my hinge which was the worst of the damage but you don’t have that problem.

Just reassemble it and do a burn to see if you can control temps as you used to.

Worst case scenario, you can buy that lower ceramic part from KJ though it costs something like $600.

If you are the original owner, just take advantage of the lifetime warranty on ceramics.
