The University of Montevallo and Chartwells are hosting a ribbon cutting at Farmer Food Hall on the University of Montevallo campus Wednesday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
Montevallo partnered with Chartwells in a recent expansion of on-campus dining options for students, faculty, staff and campus guests with new retail concepts that opened in January 2026 in a newly renovated Farmer Hall. The new dining experience launched with five distinct options, with three opening in the new Freddie’s Kitchen named by UM students, including:
City Mac, featuring customizable macaroni and cheese bowls
BONMi, featuring Vietnamese sandwiches, salads and bowls
Veg 23, a vegan and vegetarian destination
Bojangles Express, a well-known brand featuring seasoned chicken and made-from-scratch biscuits
Einstein Bros. Bagels, a campus mainstay with fresh bagels and coffee
The new Farmer Food Hall significantly increases the number of dining options available to Montevallo students, faculty, staff and the community. These dining locations are open to the public as well during listed hours.
“There are 15 total concepts that can be dropped in over the years without renovating the space again, and students will have a chance to vote for making changes each year,” said Jason Quarles, director of dining services for Chartwells.
Renovations to Farmer Food Hall helped modernize key dining and common areas, which will enhance the student experience and improve the functionality of the building. The opening of Farmer Food Hall is the result of important feedback the University has received from students as part of the Student Satisfaction Survey concerning food service operations completed annually.
