Hey all,

Ramadan started today, which means I’m going 30 days without coffee. No espresso, no “just a quick shot,” nothing.

I didn’t think it would hit me this hard, but my whole daily rhythm kind of revolves around pulling a shot in the morning. The smell, dialing in beans, that first sip… it’s going to be rough.

I’ll still hang around here to live vicariously through your beautiful shots and maybe torture myself a little scrolling through crema pics 😅

Anyway… wish me luck. See you in 30 days when I pull the most meaningful shot of my life.

You got this! Looking forward to your epic shot in 30 days!

Question, out of curiosity: is it frowned upon (or forbidden) to consume caffeine at all? For example, having a coffee at suhoor or iftar?

I had many Muslim friends in college, but I’ve never thought about coffee/قهوة when they were fasting!

i forgot the rules but can’t you drink it in the evening? or does that only apply to food?

Could always pull the shot and dump it, or turn it into ice cream for later. That way you get the smell and routine still.

I can’t do it for 30 days, i’m drinking after iftar lol

Why aren’t you drinking after sunset/before sunrise?

Can you do decaf? If you get freshly roasted decaf it is often just as good as regular. Plus you can have it at night without being all energized! The reason it’s often looked down on is people buy old, stale beans and just add too much water. Try getting some fresh and making your standard drink

Good luck! that’s gonna be a rough 30 days, but good for you for that commitment

Good luck, that morning-shot ritual is brutal to give up — I tried a caffeine pause once and the first week felt weirdly empty. Try a hot tea or warm water ritual to keep the routine without the buzz, you’ll get through it.

I did the same thing. That’s why I moved on to espresso.

Ramadan mubarak! I’m in the exact same boat.

Well at the end of Ramadan my milk steaming will still suck so you can take comfort in that…

A good holiday season for you–

Perhaps replace your morning espresso ritual with a glass of water and short meditation each morning? Another nice ritual, perhaps.

Is this the first time you’ve given up coffee for Ramadan? Or are you new to the espresso hobby?

The way you say you’ll pull “the most meaningful shot of my life” makes it seem like this isn’t something you’ve done before.

  19. As someone who went 11 days without it due to dental reasons, if you take your time getting a good cup on that first cup back, it’s gonna be one of the most magical experiences of your entire life.

  20. I’ve gone cold turkey before too! But it’s tough. Last year started ripping a shot at suhoor and then going back to sleep after fajr. Had another shot last night at iftar and it was wonderful, didn’t keep me awake later either!

Why didn’t you pick something else to give up like … Brussel sprouts! 🫤

  22. itsmeandnotme

Bro, I’ve been waking up for Sohoor and making myself a strong latte to keep going for the day.

    Also Ramadan Kareem!
