Any diet or nutrition plan implies moderate and healthy meals, experts emphasize. In addition to the Mediterranean diet, the vegetarian diet proved to be a “full hit”, writes the British Metro.

We can often hear about new diets that “guaranteed to lose extra pounds”, and the latest in the series is liposuction, which eliminates refined sugars and industrial foods. However, according to many, the Mediterranean diet is still the healthiest way to lose fat.

Nutritionists, however, suggest a vegetarian diet in addition to the Mediterranean diet, which has proven to be equally effective. However, you should pay attention to getting enough vitamin B12, iron and protein.

A vegetarian diet has a beneficial effect on our cardiovascular health, according to a study of 107 healthy, overweight people. During half a year, the subjects were on a Mediterranean diet for the first three months, and a vegetarian diet for the other three.

During those six months, the participants went for regular health check-ups, and nutritionists also advised them on how to reduce their calorie intake. The research showed that both diets were equally effective.

A vegetarian diet reduces bad cholesterol, which can lead to stroke or heart attack, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular problems, just like the Mediterranean diet, experts point out.
