Posters are mostly correct. Frozen and vac-pac udon are fat and round. Dried udon however can have flat AND round varieties. We bring all our dry udon back from Japan and it’s always been a round variety that we purchase/given by family; In fact we often buy from Costco Japan if the family doesn’t have a ton “expiring.”
Look around online, or Asian stores if available, and see if you come across the round type.

The dried udon are flat. Only the freshly made ones are thick.

Then how are the round one made? They don’t have the frozen one around where I live.
It’s hard to find dried thick udon noodles. As others are saying your best bet is finding frozen thick udon like this
