Well not tinned fish, but instead canned critters.

I was peer pressured into trying this, from several of you here.

So here we are…

Silkworm Pupa

These were… well.. interesting. not something I would grab off the shelf.

Maybe there is a better way to prepare it?

Brave man eating it straight out of the can! I soaked them in water for 30 minutes to try to get rid of the smell and roasted them in the oven and seasoned them with some salt and pepper. They were decent.

Gotta chase each bite with some booze, soju or a crisp beer really help rinse the flavor away. AND eating them with a drink helps you drink more faster. Which is their real purpose 🙂

I actually got 3 cans from my mom’s apartment (clearing it out when she went into a nursing home). I didn’t have my glasses, so when I found them, I thought they were marinated beans. It wasn’t until I drove home, 10 hrs away, that I realized what they were. I am NOT brave enough to try them. Remarkably, a co-worker has an Aunt who wants them, so they’re now getting “rehomed” once again.

I’d watch the whole video but I got a little nauseous just seeing the open can. Sorry.

These would hit with some fresh rice and a beer. Maybe “passed through oil” after draining and stir fried with some garlic, ginger, shaoxing wine, a bit of the juice they were packed in, fermented black beans, and some chili powder.

They are so nutrient dense that it is worth it to muscle through.

Not something you would grub off the shelf huh?

I ate one right out of the can, and immediately decided they had to be crispy or I was a goner.

Mad props to you for being able to take them straight. I needed some interventions for my bugs

I would like to go on record here that I am not one of the folks who peer pressured Tyler. It’s wrong to peer-pressure people who send you 10 cans of your favorite sardine of all – AS CUSHIONING IN A MAIL PACKAGE 🤯

Flower Moroccan Spiced – my #1 sardine and packing material of all 🤣

I bet Doug is going to get a bad review now

Think of it like a shrimp. A weird, weird little tree shrimp…

  10. DAS_OOZE

I consider myself an adventurous eater.. until I see this. I am not brave.

Now go to a place that breeds crickets and tell me if a cricket farm smells like those taste.

I’m serious, I’ve tried these and one of my customers grew rodents and reptiles so also crickets. The cricket area smelled a lot like how these smell and taste.

  12. quaidod

That is absolutely disgusting, props to you for trying them

I remember smelling these roasting when I was a kid, going hiking in the mountains. Were sold in little paper cups + toothpick. Visually/conceptually a bit freaky but were good hiking treats.

Having said that I don’t think I’d eat them straight out the can all soggy.

Lol doggo was like “thanks? Wtf are you feeding me tho” lmao

  15. Bdoggg999

Seems like so much chili crisp that your mouth goes numb and you can’t really taste them might help.

This is the worst food I have ever smelled. If you go by Busan in the summer, you can literally smell boiling ones in the streets along the beach, and it smells like DEATH. Lots of great korean food, but this one is an abomination.

  17. Minimum-Food4232

Had these after they were properly soaked and cooked and they tasted just like refried beans to me. Feel like it might be good in a burrito or something.

  18. I lived in Korea for 6 years for work and a long-term relationship… and this was one local food I just could not bring myself to try. The smell is so musty. My ex didn’t enjoy it either and said it was kinda an old man food.

  19. Grouchy-Cat1584

Ummm…nope. 🤮 Thank you for describing them more specifically than I have ever heard before! And Sammy to the rescue! 😄

  20. jakesrunnin

No it’s not tin fish. You are right.

    And it’s definitely not sardines.

Hey could we have some stricter rules on all the bs posted here

    It’s CANNED SARDINES. Sub

    Not caned random crap sub

  21. jakesrunnin

This has nothing to do with this sub.

    Go to r/weird

    Or r/ cannedcrap

  22. Valraithion

Hey, it’s not clear if you fed the cooked pupa or remaining ones from the can, but garlic is toxic for dogs. Would not recommend feeding your pup stuff with it. Thanks for the review!

  23. -E-Cross

I’ll ask my buddy Mike who comes from a region where he gets these fresh and he loves them but has never had canned. I got some to surprise him since he didn’t think you could get it in the states.

I’ll report back on the prep and recipe.

  24. Sea-Currency-1665

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!? Keep that *%#@ to yourself

  25. I tried them as a preteen, decided they taste like black eyed peas, which I hate. You really want to shake some people up? Grab Rose brand pig brains in milk. Not very nice to eat either

  26. zivinkxter

You vill eat ze bugs! Another post trying to normalize this shit. Disgusting.

  27. SpicyVindalooCurry

I’m a fan of your videos, Sir, but this is not seafood (it’s land food). You might as well be reviewing SPAM or tinned chicken.
