I went for a 3-day work trip out of town and let my cousin housesit for me while I was gone. He told me he used my bbq for him and a couple buddies but didn’t clean it. I’m quite new to bbqing and wondered what’s the best way to clean a mess like this? It’s burned chicken skin on there.
Thanks

Best way is to have your cousin clean it 🤷♂️
Looks like a gas setup; regardless turn it over and burn off all the carbon. Turn off the grill, flip it back over, wait 15 mints and then lube it up.
I’m sure there’s a bunch of ways, but I would use a flat top scraper. Should be pretty easy.
Also, your cousin is a dick and I bet that chicken was undercooked.
Magnum, and don’t let him to use it again please)
I would warm it back up. Add a bit of water to rehydrate the dried stuff. Scrape with a drywall knife. Then lubricate the grates afterwards while it’s still warm but not wildly hot with some grapeseed oil on a paper towel with a tongs so the grates stick less to the food. Be careful when applying so you don’t trigger a grease flareup.
Throw some vinegar and lemon juice in your cousins eyes, and then scrub the surface clean with their disrespectful face.
Or just heat the grill and scrub with stiff bristle brush. (Bamboo bristles work well) as long as the grill isn’t “catch your brush on fire” hot.
Metal brushes work, but they can leave little bristles behind that can break off, get in your food, puncture your stomach from the inside, cause massive infections and possibly put you in the forever timeout. (Extremely rare, but it’s possible)
Pumice stone scrubber works. I have a chainmail scrubber on a stick thing that works well.
I have many questions but,
You couldn’t leave your house empty for 3 days??? Haha all good
Anyway… scrap of the large amount of stuff out the grill then burn on high heat should be fine
You’ve got to heat it, scrape it, hydrate whatever’s still stuck and scrape it some more.
No, I take that back, your cousin needs to get their ass back to your patio and do all that. And they need to bring a six pack or a bottle of something you like to drink when they come over to do all that.
If they don’t, next time you have a cookout, invite everyone but your cousin. Or, invite your cousin but tell them they have to cook and clean for themselves.
yes, sometimes I’m petty and vindictive. And yes, I’ve got cousins that don’t get invited to things because of similar bs.
Heat. Scrub. Oil.
Your cousin!
BBQ’s self clean..? (Clean it with fire)
With your cousins face………🤨
With your cousins face………🤨
With his face…….
What have you tried?
Your pfp is what Robotgirl’s transformation should have looked like.
MAKE HIM DO IT.
This doesn’t look like a huge deal. Scrape. Grill brush. Oil.
Sounds like he was doing you a favor house sitting? That cleanup is like, 5 minutes of active work.
In french to clean this type of mess one would use something called “huile de coude”. Hopefully this will help
It might be a reversible griddle so you could just turn it upside down and burn a lot of it off. Or you should be cleaning it by getting it nice and hot and then pouring a little bit of boiling water on it. Be careful not to burn yourself. A little bit of water should steam and loosen up a lot of the gunk and then you can scrape it off with a scraper tool. That’s usually on a lot of grill cleaners or you could get a bench scraper, which is used a lot in baking for manipulating bread dough, but it works really well to clean flat surfaces.
Heat and scrape. Doesn’t look that hard to clean.
I would get a heavier plastic retail bag and use a wide-body flat scraper. . . Pick up the debris and put the stuff in the bag. Scrap as necessary to loosen stuck stuff. Over and over again until mostly up. Then vacuum the remains soot.
Then use a heavy duty spray cleaner for grease and grime. That you would buy at Home Depot type place.
Burn it. Then burn your cousin
Does your cousin still live with his parents?
You’re gone for 3 days and your cousin is housesitting and having buddies over? Why?
Add heat, you’ll be fine. Add vinegar if needed.
Scrub, leave in cleaning vinegar for a few hours, scrub again
Crank up the heat, scrape it off. Good to go
Wow…left it dirty…agree…find a new cousin.
Can someone explain th concept of house sitting?
I don’t particularly “clean” my grill, just have a wire brush that does an ok job of getting between the grills themselves. I just heat it up for a couple minutes till it’s nice and hot and start scrubbing. What doesn’t come right off becomes ash then comes off.
Am I the only one that cleans their BBQ before the meal and not after? I find it’s a whole lot easier 🤷
Call the cousin app and say bruh.
Best way to clean it? Get a new cousin
Heat it up and scrape it off
Une bonne brosse à dents…
I would get it real hot and then just squirt some water on there. Should loosen it all up and then scrape it off. Once it’s clean you want to season the flat top with a few coats of oil. Use some tongs and a paper towel to evenly apply a thin coat. Let it get hot and smoke off. Do this 2 or 3 times. Prevents rust and food sticking the next time.
Nah, this one is ruined. Gotta throw it away now.
A scraper?
Scrub Daddy BBQ Brush and heat should clear it right up. Make sure to soak the brush.
First, call your cousin a dick. Second, heat it up, then throw cold water on it to “deglaze” it. Scrape off with a heavy spatula.
