CAVA, a fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in Mediterranean cuisine, may soon open a new location in Pembroke Pines.

The restaurant operates much like its well-established competitors, such as Chipotle: Customers move down the assembly line, customize their bowls or pitas and cough up around $15.

The Greek-inspired chain has a new location application being processed with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for a storefront at 11049 Pines Blvd.

The newest CAVA location would take over the former Pei Wei Asian Kitchen space, which is permanently closed.

The Pembroke Pines News reached out to CAVA officials for comment on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and has not heard back.

Founded in 2010 in Washington, D.C., CAVA has since expanded to more than 400 restaurants nationwide.

The chain has 40 locations in Florida, of which three are in Broward and Miami-Dade counties — Aventura, Brickell, Hialeah and Plantation.

It is unclear when the Pines restaurant will open.
