The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has outlined the program and opened registration for the 2027 IMW International Symposium, which will take place in Adelaide from Thursday, 15 April to Sunday, 18 April.
The Symposium positions Australia as a focal point for international wine dialogue, underscoring industry confidence in the country as a host for substantive global discussion on the future of wine.
Widely regarded as a key fixture on the international wine calendar, the event will convene leading educators, trade representatives, producers and influencers in Australia, creating a platform to present Australian wine within its domestic context to a global audience.
Wine Australia CEO, Dr Martin Cole, said: “Hosting the IMW International Symposium 2027 in Adelaide reflects the confidence the global wine community has in Australia’s role in shaping the future of wine.
“It’s a powerful opportunity to bring the world’s leading wine voices to Australia to experience our regions, our producers and the innovation shaping our sector, creating lasting advocacy for Australian wine globally.”
The four-day program will open with a grand Australian trade tasting, showing the quality and diversity of Australian wine. Delegates will have the opportunity to taste wines from right across Australia, meet producers and network with other attendees.
Day two sees two moderated sessions discussing old vines, which will include a tasting of wines made from old vines compared to one made from young vines, giving delegates the opportunity to discuss ‘does vine age matter?’.
Sessions on day three include ‘how wine can connect in a changing world’, ‘ fine-tuned viticulture – gene technology and vineyard resilience’ and ‘maintaining balance in a changing climate’.
Sunday will include a plenary session on ‘wine industry’s social roles and responsibilities’.
Sarah Harrison, IMW Executive Director, said: “We are thankful for the support we have received by our hosts, The South Australian Government, and of Major Sponsor, Wine Australia.
“The IMW’s mission is to foster excellence, interaction and learning across all sectors of the global wine community and the Symposium is a prime example of that. Registrations are open to all and we look forward to seeing the greatest minds of the wine community come together to debate, network and learn.”
Delegates will also be given the opportunity to tour a variety of Australian wine regions, both before and after the symposium.
