Looks great, That rust is no big deal. As below sand or lightly sand blast. Season with oil and fire it up.
I visited my pit builder and the owner was bored and spent a couple of hours with me showing my all his pits. Klose Pits has built >100,000 pits and ships worldwide so he knows alittle about pits. I asked about rust and he said oil it and heat it up. I do this a couple of times a year, and you can do it during a cook, except your first time when you are cleaning the inside.
