Nothing gets you over a night out quite like a decent breakfast. The problem is a late night is often followed – especially in my case – by a decent lie in, meaning most of my favourite cafes have long stopped serving the most important meal of the day.

But as I lay in bed kicking myself for failing to set an alarm, the solution to my problem came to me – Muzzy’s Breakfast House. Muzzy’s sits just off the roundabout on Broadway, in Bebington where a growing restaurant and bar scene has emerged in the last few years.

The bright coloured Turkish café has garnered a loyal community of customers since it first opened in 2019 due to the impressive breakfasts it serves. We timed our arrival perfectly, being shown to a table straight away and instantly presented with menus.

There’s a vast number of dishes on offer, from small eats such as toast and poached/fried or scrambled eggs priced at £4.70 to hearty meals like the Muzzy’s Mediterranean breakfast, which comes with a omelette with two toppings of your choice, black olives, avocado, two slices of grilled halloumi, two filo pastry, a Turkish sesame bagel, jam, cream cheese and a side salad for £15.

I can often have eyes too big for my belly, but even I knew there was no way I’d be able to tackle that. Instead I checked out the more medium sized dishes, opting for a vegetarian breakfast for £8.90. The meal consisted of two eggs, two Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages, two slices of grilled halloumi, two McCain hash browns, Heinz beans and a slice of toast. You also get grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, but I asked for them to be left off as I’m not a fan of ether.

I quite liked the fact the menu namechecked the brands it serves, as you instantly get an idea for the quality of the produce you’ll be served. My partner opted for a £9.90 traditional English breakfast, featuring two eggs, two bacon, two Cumberland sausages, grilled tomato, fried mushrooms, Bury black pudding, McCain hash browns, Heinz beans and a slice of toast. As he’s also not a fan of the mushrooms, he asked to swap them out for an extra slice of toast.

We also ordered a glass of orange juice and cup of tea with oat milk to sip while we waited. The orange juice was a generous serving, and you could tell by the sweet, almost tart flavour, that it was freshly squeezed.

The café has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, the Turkish inspired decoration almost made it feel like we were away on holiday. The food was served super quickly but I can’t say I was prepared for just how much would be on the plate, and I was a little taken aback by the giant breakfast portion I was presented with.

My growling tummy was delighted however, and after I decanted the beans from their ramekin and lashed on some brown sauce, I was soon tucking into my hearty breakfast – if you can call still call it that at 12.30pm.

The real danger with a cooked breakfast is that they can be a little too greasy, but that was not the case here. Everything was just right, even the veggie sausages which can get cardboardy if not cooked correctly, were spot on. The toast was soft and fluffy beneath the toasted surface, and surprisingly thick with a generous portion of butter to spread on it.

My partner’s bacon and sausage were good quality, and even though he’s not a massive fan of black pudding, said his slice was full of flavour. He did wish that he’d opted by an extra hash brown rather than toast as, by the end, he was struggling to clear the plate.

In total the bill came to £24.50, which we felt was reasonable give the huge portions of food we’d just eaten. Muzzy’s is currently in the process of opening a second café in Heswall, which feels like the perfect addition to the town’s hearty mix of restaurants and cafes.
