This recall involves the metal wire bristle grill brushes with plastic or wood handles measuring between 12 and 21 inches long, as described below. The following model numbers are included in this recall and can be found on the product packaging: 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494.

  2. Good time to get rid of that kind of brush if you have it and get something that won’t fill your meat with metal shavings.

Who is still using these kinds of brushes? Aren’t they all able to leave steel bristles in your food? Might as well recall every single metal bristled gril brush.

Why do people have a hard time washing the grill surface after wire brushing? I do that and it removes any risky metal wires. Cleaning a cold grill grate is a shitty experience.

I use steel wool. Feel like it cleans the best. Give it a quick wash afterwards too.

Scrub daddy grill brush works amazing. After going to urgent care to get one of this wire bristles removed from my foot I’ll never go back to these janky things.

I haven’t had the bristles fall out of these plastic handle wire 3 sided style brushes. Once they get slightly rusted or too gunked up – I toss them. I feel like they are the only brushes that work for my Summit stainless steel grates.

Now the one with the wooden handle is one that I wouldn’t use as I have had the wires fall out of this style of brush. Wooden and plastic.

Smarter Every Day is a YouTube channel that focuses on engineering. The host engineered and then manufactured a chain mail grill cleaner that is made entirely from USA sourced materials. Except a single screw I believe. He documents the difficulty he had in doing so on his channel. Some fascinating stuff. Anyway the brush is expensive but very well received if you’re into this sort of thing. https://www.smartereveryday.com/smarterscrubber

  9. Wait a minute, an acknowledged manufacturing defect resulting in a product recall? I thought the metal bits on any brush were going to fuck my wife and run over my dog? How can this be?

  10. Does anyone have any experience with Smarter Everyday’s metal grill brush, the smarter scrubber?

I usually use balled up foil and that works well. You can also use a potato, an onion, or an apple and that works great too. There is no reason to the dumb ass brushes anymore especially because they do a shitty job! They don’t even clean the grill well and have potential for horrific consequences. Don’t fuck around

I do use a wire brush but I also use water to dunk it and clean the grates really well before a cook and I haven’t had an issue.

  13. Marty1966

Had one of these and threw it away when I found it was missing some wires. I still use the same type, but I’m mad that I’m out of a rebate.

Rights after shut off the grill I hit it with wet steel wool, works like a charm on cast iron grates

I get it these can be dangerous but who is just swallowing their food that they don’t notice metal when chewing, were they eating off a park bench too?
I would notice wire on my grill or food.

Important rule of thumb for grilling, never use metal bristle brushes to clean grates, NEVER

  17. Big_Q_Numero_Uno

Just looking at it it was bound to be a problem

I bought one of the sponge type you soak & then clean your hot grates. Love it. It really does clean everything off the grates perfectly. Anything with wire bristles is dangerous.

I like to take a cheap bamboo spatula/stir thing from kitchen aisle of the local grocery store, and use that to scrape a hot grill. The smokin hot grates will burn an in exact fit for their specific pattern into the wood. Soak it in water first, if you wish. It’s been proven to be pretty versatile for me, and essentially disposable (and compostable).
