OTTUMWA, Iowa – Thursday marked the official kickoff for Main Street Ottumwa’s new Downtown Lunch Club.
Executive Director Kris Patrick says the goal of the club is to encourage people to try out different restaurants in the city while getting to know fellow community members.
The first restaurant to host Lunch Club was Amore Italian Restaurant on East Main Street.
Owner Cathy Gonzales says it means a lot to see people come in an a part of a concerted effort to support local business.
“That’s one thing I love about Iowa. In Ottumwa, they like to help each other, and I think it’s amazing,” Gonzales said.
“It’s sort of like a cash mob for restaurants, so we will be hitting a different one every month. We’re just making sure that people know what’s Downtown and great places to go eat,” Patrick said.
From here on out, the Downtown Lunch Club will meet on the fourth Monday of each month.
You don’t need to pre-register or do anything special, just head out to the featured restaurant and enjoy good food with even better company.
Main Street Ottumwa will post updates about the next lunch club meetings on its Facebook page.
