Panera's Chocolate Croissant: Panera's chocolate croissant is a delicate, flaky butter croissant that's supped up with a semi-sweet chocolate filling along with being topped with a chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar. Prior to May 2023, it had a more traditional looking crescent shape. Currently, it looks more like an overweight Hot Pocket. Other than the less "sexy" appearance (can it really be called a croissant if it's no longer crescent shaped?), I was pleasantly surprised by this pastry. I was afraid there would not be enough chocolate, but there was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth (the addition of the powdered sugar didn't hurt either). Most of that chocolate is concentrated in two fill lines within the interior of the pastry. Texturally, it was pleasantly chewy in the center, extra crispy on the outside (what a crunch!), and a bit flaky with the layered dough. It can be messy as the chocolate flakes on top can break off and the powdered sugar may dust your hands. I enjoyed this enough to say it’s Doughboy approved 😋
