INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — March is National Nutrition Month, and the 2026 theme, “Discover the Power of Nutrition”, emphasizes how daily food choices influence long-term health habits. Registered dietitian and New York Times bestselling author Frances Largeman-Roth is offering practical strategies and recipes to help Americans make informed nutritional decisions.

The annual campaign highlights how food and beverage choices affect energy levels and daily routines beyond taste. Largeman-Roth, a nationally recognized nutrition expert and author of “Everyday Snack Tray”, provides guidance she says viewers can apply immediately.

She suggests starting with a stocked pantry to make healthy eating easier for families. Bone broth is one staple she recommends as a simple protein boost. Largeman-Roth highlighted reduced-sodium chicken bone broth as a versatile ingredient for recipes like chicken tortilla soup, saying it adds protein without changing cooking methods.

As a mother of four, Largeman-Roth also stresses the convenience of high-quality snacks. She pointed to Nuts.com, a family-owned company offering organic nuts, dried fruits and custom trail mixes. A recent company study found cashews are the most popular nut in the United States.

“Realistic, family-friendly strategies can help build healthy habits that last a lifetime,” Largeman-Roth said.

Nutrition is also key to healthy aging and maintaining muscle mass, which is linked to lower mortality risk. Largeman-Roth noted that dairy milk, including lactose-free options, provides complete protein and essential nutrients such as calcium and vitamin D. She said milk supports muscle building, bone strength, brain function and heart health, and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Fiber intake remains a major concern, as 95% of Americans fall short of recommended amounts for digestion and gut health. Largeman-Roth recommended high-fiber cereals such as Raisin Bran, All-Bran or Frosted Mini-Wheats from WK Kellogg Co., which provide six to 12 grams of fiber per serving.
