TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The first-ever Oro Valley Fine Art and Wine Festival is happening this weekend, celebrating Arizona’s thriving wine industry while showcasing artwork from across the country.
Arizona’s wine industry is booming.
According to a 2022 study, Arizona produced over 300,000 gallons of wine, generating $100 million in retail sales. With roughly 125 wineries across the state, Arizona is becoming a serious player in the wine market.
“It’s a competitive market out there and Arizona makes some really good wines. Our specialties are red but we’re competing against the world and California is right next door, so our competition is very stiff. The more we can get out there and let people sample our wines, the better we’re gonna be able to sell them to retailers and restaurants across the state” said festival organizer Mike Pigford.
Set up against the backdrop of the Catalina Mountains, the festival features 150 booths with something for everyone – wine and beer tastings from Arizona wineries, fine art, and a chance to discover new favorites.
People will have the chance to see and purchase original artwork from 85 artists from Arizona and across the country. The art pieces range from glass, stone, statues, paintings, metal art, and even live demonstrations.
The festival will provide food from local food trucks and culinary vendors offering cheese, chocolate, charcuterie, and chocolate-covered apples. Live music will help liven the mood and deliver entertainment throughout the day.
“Come out and just tantalize all of the senses from the beautiful artwork that you’re looking at, the aromas of the wine, the taste, you know you’ve got good music playing all day long, and we just have a lot of fun out here,” Pigford said.
For festival organizers, this event is about more than just sales—it’s about building awareness and community support for Arizona wines.
“Every year there is another challenge. How do we continue to grow our industry, create awareness with everybody around the state? And so, we have to go to where the people are, let them sample it and become our fans and become our advocates to the restaurants and retailers across the state,” Pigford shared.
Oro Valley residents have a strong appreciation for both wine and art, making it the perfect location for this inaugural celebration of Arizona’s creative and culinary communities.
“Oro Valley is a great area. I know that they love their wine, I know they love their art and so it’s good to be back,” Pigford said.
