We have our cellar and a wine fridge in our kitchen which I use as the "on deck circle" for wine for weeknights and special occasion dinners. I usually keep it stocked with weeknight bottles, but sometimes some nicer bottles linger if we don't drink everything from fancy dinners.
I'm on vacation and my wife texted me the above. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rookie mistake. My parents have a “wine cellar” (some racks in the darkest corner of their basement) and my dad puts all the good stuff on the top shelf so we know what is a “go downstairs and grab a bottle” wine versus a special occasion wine 😂
Reminds me of the time I was housesitting for my parents when I was 22. I was trying to impress a girl so I opened a 2006 Quilceda Creek Cabernet that we drank about half of and poured the rest out.
When they got home my mom texted me saying she hoped I enjoyed that wine and she won’t be paying me for housesitting. I was clueless.
I have two dedicated shelves (red and white) in the wine fridge that can be used without any need to talk to me. Everything else is off limits.
I did a check expecting you were talking about a $300 wine! This is def not supermarket wine, but at least it won’t kill you financially.
I was at a friend’s while his parents were away, they had a cellar and the rule was ‘help yourself but don’t drink anything special and don’t let your friends in there’ but he was clueless. He disappeared and came back with a very old Bordeaux. I knew a little and asked if he was sure we were ok to drink it, his reply as he popped the cork was ‘yeah it was really dusty and they had 6 of them anyway’! Wish I could remember what it was, I do remember it being very leathery and one of my first wow wine moments. I have a separate rack for ‘dinkers’ in case my wife wants to grab something and I’m not about.
Haha reminds me when my girlfriend cracked a ’97 Dom P and was telling me that it was good and we should get some more.
Many years ago…..A few of us went out to dinner. Came back to my buddy’s sister mixing my 1985 Gaja with 7 up. She says “do you have any more of this wine? It made the best spritzers”. 😭
I keep the door in my refrigerator stocked with daily drinkers to try to avoid this situation. I have some Muscadet Sevre et Maine, Alsatian Riesling, Chardonnay from the Languadoc, Cremant de Loire, and some Prosecco. Any or all can be consumed with no worry. The wine fridges need some prior approval though haha.
Y’all need some cellar defenders
Is this a rose please? Or something entirely different ?
Before we were married, my husband and his buddy used 2 bottles of Krug for mimosas while I was out of town. I gave them both hell for it but now it’s a hilarious lore story.
This is why my wines are all labelled *share* and *off limits*. Completely separate words so they are not open to interpretation lol
My small cellar is split in three sections, since my wife said she was cautious of taking anything from there I set it up so the first section closest to the door is wine for everyday drinking, the mid section is planned for 1-5 years of storage and the third section is for more than 5 years or rarities for special occasions.
My wife opened up a bottle
Of Coche Dury Mersault cause she knew it was Chardonnay. She drank it with friends for the 4th bottle of the night. There was about 3 oz left when i got
Back. She got the conversation the next day.
