I have a little Weber Spirit that has served me well for the past 9 years or so. I want to give it some TLC for this season. How big of an issue is this peeling paint though? I’m worried it will fall into the food . Any suggestions on how to remedy?

It’s creosote. A build up of particulate from grilling.

It will defiantly flake off onto you food. You can get in front of it, and scrape it off, use a wire brush, and a soft hand

Not paint. Creosote. Accumulation of combustion byproducts.

Scrape off during cleaning so it doesn’t fall onto food.

It’s not paint. It’s creosote buildup from the cooking you’ve been doing. You can just scrape it off so it doesn’t fall on your food.

Very likely not paint, that’s probably grease build up from cooking over time. Just scrape it off and move on!

As far as I know Weber doesn’t use paint inside the lid

That is more likely smoke/carbon deposit from cooking. hit it with a scraper/degreaser and rince with your garden hose or pressure washer.

No that’s creosote build up and I usually scrape mine off with a ball of aluminum foil

If you have any neighbors that you don’t get along with, drag the grill in front of their yard and scrape the top
