2020 Domaine Zind Humbrecht Sommerberg Grand Cru Riesling

Opened, tasted, and then decanted for about an hour

Nose on opening was beautiful yet tight. Lots of crushed stone and underripe stone fruit. Tight on the palate, rich yet clean and elegant

After decanting, this wine started to show some incredible richness and elegance. Petrol seeps through a lemon honey-comb on the nose. Rich and powerful lemon butter oily texture on the palate with touch of just slightly ripe Anjou pear. Medium+ acid that balances out the insane 30+ second finish.

This wine sticks with you and you’ll wish you had a magnum.

Zind-Humbrecht Grand Crus are always sublime. They really should only come in magnum size. That’s the minimum you need for complete enjoyment haha. Cheers!

Beautiful. Alsace, Finger Lakes in NY state, and Germany and Austria. So many amazing Rieslings to pick.

Zind Humbrecht fan here, tho I’ve never had the grand cru.

Only scratched the surface, if I even did that, when I visited Strasbourg France with my siblings this past fall. But I did pick up 2 bottles 2while there and have them laid down in the cellar to see what happens!

The Rieslings I had there were quite tasty, and not overly sweet or anything. I keep eyeing one at my local Costco that I may have to try.

  5. Excited about the paring with shellfish. Can you, or this community, give me 2-3 bottle intro dry Rieslings to try. I love Sancerre, Chablis, Albariño. But keep getting sweet Rieslings at my local shop.

Great notes, thanks for sharing. I am new to the wider world of Riesling, but have very much enjoyed Hyland Estates Old Vine Riesling from McMinnville, OR. It was my first exposure to anything beyond the typical lower-end grocery store sweet stuff, and I am forever changed.
