Restaurant Madness. Homewood’s promotion featuring local restaurants goes from March 1 to March 15. Anyone who dines at three participating restaurants and spends a minimum of $300 total can submit receipts. The first 100 diners to turn in receipts will receive a $50 gift card. The program is intended to spotlight local restaurants and give them a business boost during a normally slow time of year. For a list of participating restaurants, click here.
Okorafor Honored. Homewood-Flossmoor High graduate Nnedi Okorafor won the NAACP Image Awards Outstanding Literary Work in Fiction on Feb. 23 for her latest book, “Death of the Author.”
Flossmoor Public Library Closure. The library will close at noon Friday, March 6, for staff in-service.

Monday, March 2
Pickleball Drill & Play. From 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays through March 23 the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. will host a class designed for players looking to build their skills and match play. Learn more strategies and techniques. Paddles and balls will be provided.

Daytime Documentaries. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing of “Paris Was A Woman” from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the meeting room.
Art in S.T.E.A.M. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host from 4 to 5 p.m. a chance for tweens and teens to embrace their creative side while exploring the art aspect of STEAM. Other elements of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) also will be incorporated in some projects. Registration required.

Teen Formal Dress Essentials Giveaway. Teens in grades 7 through 12 who have a special occasion coming up (prom, graduation, school dance) and still need an outfit can seek the perfect fit from 4 to 7 p.m. in the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Gently-used dresses (long and short), shoes, purses, jewelry, and menswear will be available. Private changing areas provided. All items are free to teens. Teen must be present in order to receive donations. Limit two outfits per teen.
Prince Charming Dance. Boys and their special guests are invited to hit the dance floor and make lasting memories together from 6 to 8 p.m. in the H-F Sports Compex, 18211 Aberdeen St. in Homewood. Enjoy great music and capture the magic with a fun photo booth experience. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $44 with a 10% discount for each additional child. Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, 1035 Sterling Ave., will partner with Girl Scouts at Western Avenue School to sell cookies with a side of beer from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will include a sample of five craft beers and 10 cookies. Learn to Curl. H-F Park District will offer two sessions from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Monday, March 9, and Monday, March 16, at the H-F Ice Arena, 777 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. Flossmoor St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Gather at the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. The parade will begin at 1 p.m.

No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings. Action for a Better Tomorrow South Suburbs will host a non-violent rally from 1 to 3 p.m. at the veterans memorial on Harwood Avenue in Homewood to protest Trump administration policies.
Saturday, April 4
H-F Community Cleanup Day. The H-F Park District and the villages of Homewood and Flossmoor are collaborating on one big communitywide clean-up day from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will begin with breakfast at Wiley’s Grill, 800 Kedzie Ave., then individuals and groups will fan out to tidy up. Sign up here.
Friday, May 22
Walk Through Our Mission. You Matter 2 will host an immersive evening at Flossmoor Community Church, that introduces the organization’s work with youth through storytelling, creativity and connection. Guests will journey through interactive stations led by students, alumni and volunteers, experiencing firsthand how You Matter 2 supports youth from middle school through career readiness. The evening will conclude with a Spotlight Program featuring student stories, a live auction, and a collective paddle raise, which is a fundraising practice that attendees to raise their bidder paddles to commit to specific donation levels, to support our programs.
