I think I am a good baker, but I always shy away from anything involving yeast, as I've had zero luck.
This recipe belongs to my MIL, who passed away 18 mths ago. She would use it to make buns, not bread. I would love to make them for my husband, but the recipe is a bit too cryptic.
Roughly how much flour, would you guess? Is that 1-1/2 cups sugar? I think it says 6-10 cups warm water, but why such a huge range, particularly with no flour amount noted? What is the notation to the left of the sugar line? Once it's combined, do you let it rest/rise? How long? To make buns, do you just pinch off an amount? Can someone hold my hand and explain as if I have the I.Q. of a houseplant? I would be so grateful. These are supposed to be the best on earth.

On the side it looks like “6 to loaf” (so 6 buns to a loaf pan? )

1 hr could be a rise time.

This is going to make a ton of buns with that much water.  I don’t do buns enough to figure out how much flour, but hopefully someone can come in there.
