I love this brand. I will have to keep an eye open for this.

  2. NO ANOLES WERE HARMED OVER LUNCHTIME – He went back into nature via the back fence!

(1-3) The tin – and a direction for the meal revealed by Google Translate: Tuna with ginger and miso for Ochizuke! Okayyyyy

    (4) One can (eventually) made 6 onigiri – but we’ll get to that

(5-6) Tuna in the can and out of the can – Aiko Chan tuna is always gorgeous and delicious. Look closely and you can see the whole chunks of fresh ginger in the can. YUMMM

(7-13) Making the Onigiri – in decided to make spicy onigiri, so I added some Yeo’s chili garlic sauce, some hot sesame oil, Sriracha and kewpie mayo. Stir it up, let it sit for a few minutes to let flavors develop, then correct to your taste.

Meanwhile, I got my Ochizuke molds out (under $3 from the Daiso), and started making the balls. Molds make this process so easy, I really recommend them.

Just as I was ready to wrap them in my nori strips – I heard a frantic meow at the door! It’s Cosmo!

(14-17) I thought he was hurt or frightened – NOPE!! He has brought us a tasty morsel for lunch. He laid his anole at my feet and of course it took off – fortunately hiding where I could grab him. He looks dead, but he’s playing possum. The biggest clue: 30 seconds ago he was bright green, and uhhh, even though you’ve turned brown, you’re still breathing little dude.

I took him out to the Jasmine covering our back fence and let him go, while Cosmo was distracted by treats and pets.

Time to wash hands, take a breath, recover a little, and get back to making lunch.

    (17) I admit after the Anole Interlude I lost my place in my photo plan: I cut a sheet of nori into 6 4-inch strips and wrapped the bottoms of the rice balls on them. The recipe made 6 rice balls, and a meal is 2. So I ate two, and the rest went into the fridge for other meals. They were very good, as expected from Aiko Chan.

    (18-19) Nutrition and ingredients

    ———————————————

When we walked into the Mitsuwa a couple of weeks ago, we were thrilled to see that they had re-expanded the canned fish section closer to what it has been a couple of years ago – AND they added more Aiko-Chan fish!

I picked up this 3-pack then, and finally got around to opening it today!

As expected, the tuna was gorgeous, moist, and very high quality. It tasted strongly of ginger, and when I looked at the can more closely I could see a generous amount of diced fresh ginger inside.

I had already examined the pack with Google Translate, which is how I decided to make onigiri. This is a can made expressly for that purpose, so in this instance, I decided to go along. Very glad I did!

Although the ginger and miso reduces some of universe of meals you can make with this tin, the tuna itself is so delicious that that’s not bothering me.

Can’t say the same for unscheduled deliveries of live prey from Cosmo – but now that I know what that particular meow sounds like, I won’t open the door automatically next time!

10/10 will buy this pack of 3 tins again. It made 6 rice balls, enough for 3 meals. There was enough spicy tuna onigiri filling left over after the rice was all used up for another lunch.

Y’all know me well enough to know that I’m going to repurpose those rice balls into something else at least once, so stay tuned!!

I don’t know what I enjoy more, the fish reviews or the cat stories!
