I like to doctor the 2x with cream and cheese and that’s good. The tteokbokki buldak is good doctored the same way, and it’s available in person. Everything else is buying online and hoping it shows up.
Randoseru_Romper
Nope. I was literally so addicted to it at one point that I was eating it at least 3 times a week for over a year. It tastes like sex.
Lady_of_Link
Gimmick yes, horrible tasting no not really.
Bane-o-foolishness
It’s okay but grossly overpriced. I go to Asian grocery stores to buy noods as they usually have a great selection.
ElevatorHandstand
This is my opinion as well, it tastes like battery acid.
krokorokodile
i agree. maybe not terrible but it gets so overrated here for being mediocre even relative to other instant noodles.
Marmatus
My partner loves it and eats it several times a week, but I think it’s gross.
artificial_chin
I genuinely think some are good. Not all, I don’t like the carbonara for example. It boils down to 2 things; the texture and the sauce.
Where I’m from the most typical instant ramen is this super thin and not chewy by texture. Buldak on the other hand is thick, hearty and chewy. It feels way more fulfilling. The second thing is the fact that flavouring is a sauce, not a powder. The sauce makes the flavour stick to the noodles way better and in a different way than powder. The powder makes it much harder to have a soup base and actually tasty noodles, it’s one way or the other. The sauce on the other hand gives them both and like you’d guess, makes the whole meal saucy and slurpy.
The only reason I don’t eat them weekly anymore is that I’ve gotten sick of it. Every flavour has the same basic feel to it and yeah, that can get a bit dull.
Rodrat
Not a fan of the taste myself either. I prefer making regular ramen and spicing it up myself.
SabziZindagi
Buldak and Dave’s should have their own megathreads, I’m tired of seeing the same junk food posts over and over.
AlexCookie
It’s ok but overpriced
Blackops606
A lot of spicy stuff is a gimmick. It sells so they keep making it.
Like let’s look at “Da Bomb”. A notorious sauce. Why is it in a huge bottle? When is anyone going to ever actually need that much?
Costco used to carry this and the sauce with 5 twists of ground Chiltepins in a pepper mill and seven strong dashes of Tabasco Scorpion and I’m GTG
godsflawedchild
We need a new sub free from Buldak and Dave’s astroturfing because mods here are probably in on it
side_frog
It’s a fun thing to try out I guess
There’s one thing to consider tho, so many people (students for example) have instant noodles as their daily diet so buldak kinda changes from the usual bland ones
Rusty1031
I just wish it wasn’t artificial chicken flavor and that the spicy oil was a bit less bitter and metallic. Otherwise I like the noodles and spice and jazzing it up myself with other ingredients
Nole19
Original is quite good
_always_correct_
i like it with butter and cheese. sue me
P_Devil
Tried it a few times, I never got the appeal. I love spicy food but it needs to have flavor. I hate spice just for the sake of spice. Capsaicin extra tastes like liquid ass and that’s what Buldak reminds me of, at least their extra hot series. Their regular flavors are fine, it’s the extra hot stuff from them and most other instant ramens I can’t stand. Give me flavor and heat, not just heat for clout.
GenitalPatton
The extremely spicy ones taste bad. The middle of the road ones taste pretty good and are very enjoyable.
Madocvalanor
I dont mind buldak, but I do more to it to add to it rather then just the sauce. I buy rotisserie chickens for my dogs (their 14 and wont eat kibble) so I’ll sneak some of it, some fresh spring onion, a packet of seaweed, and some sesame into it.
That said, I prefer Neoguri or shin more if I want the fancy ramen.
Riffsalad
Idk man. The carbonara is pretty addicting for a quick and easy spicy meal.
Zariski_
I enjoy the black Buldak. I just don’t like having to spend 5 minutes scraping the excess sauce off of my tongue after eating it.
yewny
its only a “gimmick” because it was a popular internet trend. while its true i only tried it because i saw the trend, i continued to get it because it actually tastes good
Licktheshade
I loooove these noodles. Absolutely they’re barely real food and I treat it like junk indulgence rather than an actual meal but they’re tasty!
Rawshark96
The taste isn’t the best but not terrible. The flaw for me is i much prefer skinnier skinnier noodles. Shin noodles are my go to in the red pot.
TheAnimePiper
I’m a fan of the carbonara ones, the cheese flavors, and the curry flavor (RIP) but not big on the og or 2x spicy. I do have a bottle of the 2x spicy in the fridge if I want to spice up the others more though.
Next_Letter
I just had it recently for the first time. The carbonara was really good
Ballamookieofficial
They do make gimmicks like the x3 etc.
But outside of those they make great bases for meals. Add some meat and vegetables of your choice to turn a quick snack into a quick meal.
