CHARLESTON — A new Italian restaurant is opening soon in the Greystar Corporate Headquarters building in downtown Charleston.
The owners of V Modern Italian are targeting a spring debut for their first Charleston restaurant. It takes over the 465 Meeting St., Suite 120 space previously occupied by The Select, which abruptly closed in November after less than two years in operation.
V Modern Italian comes from European-based Fast Fine Restaurant Group. Founded in 2017 by Swedish restaurant industry veteran Christian Lagerlöf and renowned restaurant designer Benjamin Calleja, the hospitality company has venues in Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Last spring, the Stockholm- and Madrid-based group brought its first restaurant to the U.S. with the debut of V Modern Italian in Nashville, Tenn. One outlet describes the establishment as “one of the sceniest restaurants in Nashville” with “marble, gold and huge street art murals of Roman gods around the space.”

“Design has always been fundamental to the V experience,” Calleja told The Post and Courier in an emailed statement. “In Charleston, we wanted to create a space that feels both globally inspired and deeply welcoming — where contemporary Italian design meets the warmth and rhythm of the Lowcountry. Every detail is intentional, mirroring the energy of the cuisine and inviting guests to truly feed all five senses.”
As construction continues, firm details about what to expect at the Charleston outpost remain mostly unclear, though it will share some similarities with the Music City location. Stefano Ciotti, who curated V Modern Italian Nashville’s menu and has earned a Michelin star at Nostrano in Italy, is collaborating on the Lowcountry menu, which will highlight a “modern interpretation of classic Italian cuisine.”
The offering will feature antipasti, fresh made pastas, main courses and wood fired elements. Patrons can expect familiar flavors to be presented with refined technique and contemporary flair, a press release said.
As for the atmosphere: “From aperitivo moments to lively late night energy, V is designed for guests to linger,” according to the release.
