BNP Paribas Open has $50 Camphor burger combo. We tried it
BNP $50 burger
It’s no surprise that food prices at sporting events can be pricy, but there’s a burger combo at the BNP Paribas Open that has us doing a double take.
Le Burger by Camphor, one of the many food offerings at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, is serving up a burger combo for $50. Yes, you read that right.
Now, we can’t be too outraged because Los Angeles-based Camphor is a Michelin-starred modern French bistro. The whole eatery’s vibe is bringing you elevated dishes to classics such as burgers, French onion soup and more.
But could this burger and fries deal really be worth $50? For journalistic purposes, we ordered the meal for lunch to see if BNP attendees should splurge for it during the tournament, which continues through Sunday, March 15.
What comes with the $50 Le Combo
The $50 Le Combo consists of a burger (with caramelized onions and a tomato rosemary remoulade), French fries (which comes with a dipping sauce) and a sparkling lime drink.
Individually, the Le Burger costs $21, the Le Cheeseburger costs $23 and French fries cost $13. There’s even caviar for $125 if you really feel like dishing out a lot of money for a meal.
Our review
The first bite tells you everything you need to know about Le Burger. The bun is super soft, and the burger patty almost melts in your mouth. But the real star of the show is the remoulade, which mixes so nicely with the soft, flavorful caramelized onions. It’s not a greasy, super hearty burger, but rather something more adult and sophisticated. It’s no wonder why this eatery earned a Michelin star.
The French fries are perfectly crispy and seasoned, and they make a great pairing with the dipping sauce. According to other people’s reviews online, it appears to be a spiced aioli. Pro tip: If you dip your burger in the sauce, you get an even tastier flavor boost.
The sparkling lime drink hits the spot on a warm day on the grounds. There’s even a lime slushie sphere that resembles a tennis ball, which gets style points from us.
The final verdict
There’s no denying it’s a tasty meal, but $50 is a bit much. But if you really want to splurge and have the means to do it, why not give this Michelin-starred restaurant a shot.
We do have workarounds if you want to try it but don’t like the hefty price tag. Get the burger and fries on their own, which comes out to $34. Sure, you’re missing out on the drink, but it isn’t necessarily worth paying an extra $16.
