Video as construction continues of new building in downtown Hanover
Here’s an inside look at progress on construction of the new Children’s Learning Academy being built by the YWCA Hanover in downtown Hanover.
After several years of serving up classic Italian deli staples, Vinny’s Italian Market has closed its downtown Hanover storefront.
In an announcement, Vinny’s Italian Market at 1 Center Square in downtown Hanover shared that the store would be closing its retail storefront in order to focus on providing event catering services.
On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the storefront was already seen to be closed, with workers bringing equipment out of the store and loading it into a box truck.
“We have made the decision to close the storefront and put all our focus into catering,” the announcement from owner Jason Eckenrode stated, adding that he could no longer justify the costs and challenges of the retail storefront.
Eckenrode, who has also owned Divino Pizzeria and Grille since 2015, first opened Vinny’s Italian Market in 2022 next door to his pizzeria that had been also originally located in Center Square.
In 2023, Divino Pizzeria relocated from the square to a larger standalone restaurant space at 613 Frederick St., adding distance between the two businesses.
After Divino moved to a new location, Vinny’s moved in 2023 from their original spot at 7 Center Square over to the Divino location at 1 Center Square.
Among the market’s popular offerings were Detroit-style pizza, traditional Italian cannolis, cheesesteak subs and a whole host of imported Italian food items.
“Thank you all for the support over the last four years,” Eckenrode wrote in the announcement.
While the retail storefront has closed as of March 5, 2026, Vinny’s will continue offering event catering services, the post shared, and several of the Vinny’s market recipes, including cannolis, will continue to be offered at Divino Pizzeria.
