FRANCE – French food-and-drink company LSDH has acquired Chambord, a prominent biscuit manufacturer renowned for its buttery shortbread and premium cookies, in a strategic move to diversify its portfolio beyond beverages, dairy, and salads into the lucrative snacking category.
The transaction, finalized in early March 2026, sees LSDH taking full ownership of Chambord’s operations based in La Guerche-de-Bretagne, integrating the brand’s production expertise and distribution network into its expanding fresh and ambient foods division.
LSDH, which has been active in the French food and drink sector and recently expanded through other acquisitions and divestments, did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
This deal follows LSDH’s pattern of targeted acquisitions, building on its 2025 purchase of Bonduelle’s packaged salad business and reinforcing its position as a versatile player in France’s competitive food processing sector.
Chambord, established over 50 years ago, specializes in high-quality biscuits made with traditional recipes, local butter, and sustainable ingredients, and serves major retailers such as Carrefour and Leclerc.
Under LSDH, the facility employing 150 staff will maintain its artisanal identity while benefiting from the group’s investment in automation, R&D, and export capabilities to tap into growing demand for indulgent yet clean-label snacks across Europe.
LSDH CEO Emmanuel Vasseneix highlighted synergies in supply chain efficiency and innovation, stating the acquisition aligns with the company’s commitment to regional sourcing and family values amid shifting consumer preferences toward premium, locally made treats.
The move comes as LSDH navigates a dynamic market, leveraging its 10 production sites and 2,250 employees to pursue planned investments, including plant-based expansions and sustainable packaging.
In May 2025, the company invested US$34.86 million in a new soy plant utilizing state-of-the-art dry-processing technology from Bühler.
By adding a specialized bakery arm to its portfolio, LSDH is evolving into a multi-category food powerhouse.
Analysts see this as a smart play to counter inflation in dairy and beverages by entering the French biscuit market, which is growing at 4% annually, driven by at-home snacking trends post-pandemic. Chambord’s addition enhances LSDH’s offerings for private-label and branded products, potentially boosting margins through shared logistics and raw material procurement.
With this purchase, LSDH solidifies its agro-food leadership in Centre-Val de Loire and beyond, emphasizing social responsibility, environmental commitments, and long-term growth in a consolidating industry.
