I was excited to try a $15 lunch special during 318 Restaurant Week in Shreveport, and decided to revisit a restaurant I liked but hadn’t visited in a couple of years.
I invited my mother to go to Flames Mediterranean Restaurant in Ashley Ridge. She had never tried Persian food and came away complimenting the food and the experience.

We were immediately served a plate of hummus and warm pita bread.
The owner stopped by our table to check on us, and told us he ‘built this restaurant on health,’ adding that they don’t serve anything fried, although plenty of people have asked.

I am always thrilled to find restaurants that focus on clean eating with real food, whole food, like fresh meats and vegetables and breads all prepared on site.
We both ordered the Chicken Barg lunch special, which is grilled skewered white meat. The special came with rice and salad or grilled vegetables.
The gourmet rice choices were the most intriguing to me. It was a large portion of basmati rice with optional berries layered on top, providing a tangy and flavorful aspect to the meal. My mother ordered cranberry and I ordered barberry. Tart cherries are also an option.
The chicken was flavorful and cooked well and I always love grilled vegetables — here it was red onion and yellow, orange, red and green peppers. My mother enjoyed her Greek salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and kalamata olives.
The regular menu at Flames Mediterranean restaurant includes dishes with beef, lamb, salmon and shrimp too.

Flames is nice inside – with booth seating near the bar area and a view of the large patio outside – which we all need to remember now that spring is upon us.
For dessert, they delivered cheesecake bites to our table as part of the special, which was the perfect end to our lunch. I noticed a dessert on the menu that I plan to try next time: homemade Persian ice cream with saffron, rose water and pistachio.
During 318 Restaurant Week, we enjoyed all of this food plus iced tea for $15 — and even took home leftovers.
