The Italian Cultural Institute in Warsaw hosted the conference ‘Sapori di comunità’ (Flavors of Community) last December to promote the recognition of Italian cuisine as intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in Poland. Opening the evening, organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Italian Academy of Cuisine, Ambassador Luca Franchetti Pardo emphasized that “Italian cuisine is not only a collection of globally appreciated recipes, but also a living heritage made up of gestures, relationships, and knowledge handed down over time. Its recognition by UNESCO is a testament to a lifestyle based on conviviality, the quality of raw ingredients, and the deep connection between territory, community, and sustainability.” The initiative brought together representatives from the Italian and Polish academic, cultural, and gastronomic worlds to reflect on the value of Italian cuisine as an expression of identity, collective memory, and a tool for social cohesion. Among the speakers was Cristiano Pinzauti, head of the Polish section of the Italian Academy of Cuisine. The event concluded with a networking session and tasting of Italian specialties, confirming that cultural and gastronomic diplomacy is a pillar of dialogue between Italy and Poland and an effective tool for promoting the Italian system.
