I burnt the hell out of the rice though, fortunately the sauce and dam back oon don't get cooked so I can't burn anything except my taste buds.
Had a fun night in with my Thai girlfriend, was excited to learn that in addition to being a celebrated chef she's also a home brewer of Lao Khao, a rice based whisky popular ok the north.
So after drinking with her and her family (via messenger) I decided to cook up some food for tonight and also for tomorrow. The egg fried rice is my own thing, even if I did burn it this time. The papaya salad is her recipe, the chilli sauce is from a Thai cookbook.
The rice tastes nice but the burnt flavour is unavoidable. The papaya salad is delightfully spicy. The chilli sauce is fucking insane but tastes very good. Served with leftover vodka and tropical juice a la Costco.

Also I left my mortar and pestle at my sister’s! So I had to improvise with a pan and the business end of a spatula.
The chilli sauce absolutely saves the rice
Looks gorgeous
At the end for my music choices (questionable) and time spent cooking
10/10
Would you be willing to share her papaya salad recipe? I love love LOVE that shit and the nearest place that has it is way farther away than my local Asian grocery.

Mmmmm looks tasty!
papaya salad is literal gold! The fermented fish aspect sounds amazing! My brother’s wife is Thai and she was the one who introduced me to this delicacy! Sometimes when I eat it, its almost like eating cooked noodles, but its all spicy vegetables, amazing
Is that a Thatchers glass? 👀
Looks amazing and brought back some really good memories of my time in Thailand…hands-down favorite place in the world! Thank you for sharing. Chiang Mai and Udon Thani have the BEST food on this planet. I need to move there….fuck this shit 🤣
