Air fryers have become a staple in contemporary kitchens, lauded for their ability to produce healthier, crispy food. Yet, keeping an air fryer clean is essential to ensure it continues to operate at its best, while also maintaining hygiene and extending its lifespan.
Despite the many advantages of air frying, cleaning the appliance can often seem daunting due to the persistent build-up of grease and leftover food particles. Enter Lynsey Crombie, a TikTok creator who gives cleaning tips, has shared her method for keeping your air fryer in pristine condition and functioning smoothly.
Eschewing the traditional white vinegar and baking soda approach, Lynsey advocates for the effectiveness of soda crystals.
Soda crystals are similar to baking soda but pack a stronger punch, making them ideal for cutting through tough grease, which is why they’re recommended for sprucing up your air fryer, reports the Express.
Lynsey said: “Keep on top of cleaning your air fryer by getting into the habit of cleaning it after every single use.”
Begin by unplugging the air fryer and taking out the basket along with any other detachable components that need washing or soaking.
Then, as per Lynsey’s guidance: “Grab some soda crystals or liquid soda crystals – these are fantastic for soaking up grease, fats and oils.
“Just add some boiling water, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and simply rinse away.”

The success of this method relies on ensuring the soda crystals are thoroughly moistened and given ample time to dissolve the grease.
Once you’ve rinsed it, make sure every component is bone dry with a fresh towel or by letting it air dry prior to putting your air fryer back together and reconnecting it to the power.
For a more straightforward approach to maintaining a spotless air fryer, Lynsey Crombie recommends employing silicone liners within, which can be effortlessly removed and washed post-use.
She explained: “Popping these in your air fryer will protect the grills and basket and save your air fryer from getting a build-up of grease and grime.”
