What’s whale taste like? I’ve never eaten a marine mammal so I wonder if it’s more like a land mammal in taste or more like a fish.

I had whale in Japan, I did not enjoy it. We had it grilled and it was very fatty (not in a way I enjoy and I dont cut the fat off my steak), and also very fishy (also somehow in a way that I dont enjoy). My palate is very wide and I eat all sorts of things from the ocean, from small dried fish the size of nail clippings all the way to tuna but whale just checked all my negative boxes somehow. Its one of like 5 things I’ve eaten that I genuinely dislike.

What kind of whale is it? Where did you buy whale? Is there a name for the cut of meat or is it just sold as whale steak

I’ve had a whale burger before. Do not recommend. I suspect this not being much better.

  9. Whale steak?! From an actual whale?! How!? Where?!

You enjoy that mercury overload, Mad Hatter.

    * **High Trophic Level:** Whales are at the top of the marine food chain, causing them to accumulate high levels of methylmercury from their prey.
    * **Contamination Rates:** Studies found that 100% of tested whale and dolphin meat samples in Japanese markets exceeded the government’s safe mercury limit, sometimes by over 40 times.
    * **Species Variation:** Mercury concentrations in dolphin and false killer whale meat were found to be exceptionally high (up to 81 parts per million in some studies), exceeding safety limits by up to 200 times.
