pot scrubber in a derogatory intonation was the preferred method of one of the saute cooks i used to work under

  2. Theperfectool

I only ever heard “dishwasher” till I came to this sub

  3. diet-smoke

I call them “the dish team” or “the dishwashers,” whichever feels right in the situation. And absolutely never “my” anything. The only person who gets called mine is my chef

  4. Bedzyk59

I loved it when I was a dishie. The dishwasher to dishie phase. The line cook to sous wasn’t as fun.

  5. phalluss

As an Australian I would disagree, however I’d be open to giving “Dish-o” a crack

  6. TOOL93Fan

    I prefer “professional hydro-ceramic engineer”

  7. Kaggand

I used to call them “Pitt-Man” and he loved it

  8. Tim_Thee_Enchanter

“Dish guy doesn’t come in til 11” dish guy.

  9. EclecticLandlady

I used to work with thoroughbred horses at the track, and there was a position titled “White Glovesman” that sounds really refined, while the reality is, it’s the person who jerks the big winner off to sell to breeders.

It’s one of those where we use it here and use something different daily at work..

    All good

It means the same thing regardless.

The guys who buy the cheaper weed

Eh.. when I was a full-time dishwasher the only thing they’d call me was “scrub” which is probably the most back-handed title you could ever give a 20-something just working minimum wage and too oblivious to know showing your loyalty is meaningless in the long run in places like that

That being said.. if I worked somewhere that the guys above me called me Dishie I’d probably take it with pride

  12. resin_messiah

It feels derogatory to me. I’d never call my dishwasher that. He’s a cool dude. Blind as a bat so he can’t work the line but he’s a great prep guy and cook.

Weto (spelt guero) is a term of endearment in Spanish but can also be an insult, context matters heavily. I feel the same about dishie.

  14. AOP_fiction

We just say “take it to dish” at my spot, or say who’s on dish. We have two designed dish guys and we don’t call either dishies now that I think about it

  15. CochonDanseur

I agree but I wouldn’t mind if they wanted to start calling me cookie 🥰

  16. Fallingpeople

I prefer steward. Just like I prefer chef over cook.

If the only thing you do is cook or wash dishes then you can be a cook or dishie respectively.

  17. PinchedTazerZ0

Better than dish pig, that shit is just dehumanizing

I was opening a spot with this guy and he wanted the cook team to refer to the dish pit as “dish station” which is a little weird in a casual restaurant but okay I guess

He was trying to think of a less derogatory sounding term for dishwasher and was like “dish cook? What do you think?” They’re not cooking anything bro what’s wrong with dishwasher. I don’t really care that much, call em what you want and I’ll back you up I guess

  18. Filthy_platypus

Director of sanitation was what my head chef had on his business card, his philosophy was we’re all dishwashers.

  19. cricket_moncher

I call myself a “dishpit dipshit”. My fellow dipshits like it but we can’t call *each other* this or we throw verbal hands lmao

  20. pozole_1998

Or just calling them by their names?

  21. eatmygerms

Better than dish-bitch and more fun than just dishwasher

  22. weblives8989

Pearl divers and underwater ceramic technician oh and porter as well.

  23. Unstabler69

*marmiton* in the brigade system or *plongeur*

  24. thev1nci

At one place I worked, it was “DMO” on the schedule and I didn’t know what it meant. Turns out it was “Dish Machine Operator”, and I think that’s more derogatory than “Dishie”.

  25. Sticky_Finger6420

Idk, im a dishie, i think its a fine name, provided its used in good faith.

  26. ItsAWonderfulFife

A step up from dish bitch, much more common back in the day

  27. Ok-Beach-9885

I call mine Puta & he calls me Gordo.

  28. metalguy91

Can we keep dishie in exchange for getting rid of Sando (for sandwiches that aren’t Japanese sandwiches on milk bread) and “handhelds”?
