To celebrate National Pi Day on March 14, pizzerias in Bronx Little Italy have some specialty offerings with various discounts, giving patrons the opportunity to eat locally and support small businesses in The Bronx.

Pi is the mathematical constant representing the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, approximately 3.14159. In honor of the first three digits of PI (π), four pizzerias on Arthur Avenue will offer special discounts to customers valid only on Saturday, March 14.

A family-owned and family-run restaurant since 1977, Ivana’s Pizzeria, located at 2373 Arthur Ave, has been crafting authentic Italian recipes passed down through generations. The owners say the business was founded by Antonio Ferri and is now managed by his two sons, Frank and Corrardo. “This Pi Day, customers can enjoy $3.14 any pie, both plain and with toppings,’ the owners said.

Meanwhile, Famosa Pizzeria, located at 621 East 187th Street, which opened in March 2018, has quickly become a neighborhood favorite, according to its owners, with its wide variety of offerings, including pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches, fried Oreos, and more.

On Pi Day, Famosa will offer $3.14 OFF any of their pies, from classics like cheese and pepperoni to specialty flavors like chicken bacon ranch and Philly Cheesesteak pizza.

Arthur Ave Crust & Kitchen, located at 2483 Arthur Avenue, known for combining New York pizza with Balkan flavors and described as part of Arthur Avenue’s legendary food scene, brings something new and exciting to the neighborhood, according to its owners. On March 14, customers can grab a plain pizza slice for $3.14. “Don’t forget to try [the] signature burek too (a flaky savory pastry)!” they said.

Finally, Funici A’Pizza & O’CCAFFE, located at 2344 Arthur Avenue, inside and in front of the famous Arthur Avenue Retail Market, will offer their margherita pizza for $10. Every ingredient featured in their pizza from the flour and yeast to the cheese and sauce comes from Italy, they said. They also offer Fordham University students 15% off their entire bill year-round.

March 14 also marks the birthday of renowned scientist Albert Einstein, who holds a strong connection to the Bronx community. The day after his 74th birthday, Einstein formally agreed to attach his name to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which officially opened in Morris Park in 1955. It was the first medical college to open in New York City since 1897.

As reported in 2024, it was announced that medical students at Montefiore’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine will receive free tuition in perpetuity thanks to a gift from Dr. Ruth L. Gottesman, Ed.D., chair of the Einstein Board of Trustees and Montefiore Health System board member.
