Nice simple and basic recipe. Great timing, thanks! I planned to today begin cooking up the last of my cold storage apples from last fall, so I added this recipe to the mix. Cooling now. Smells and looks delicious.

It’s helpful to add a tablespoon or two of something tart to balance the sweetness, like lemon juice or (my fave) apple cider vinegar.

A good variation of this is to use two types of apple, a pie apple that will hold it shape like a Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, and a softer apple, like a mac or ambrosia that will melt into a sauce. Using half cardamom, half cinnamon is another great variation. Your apples don’t have to be perfect either, if your grocer sells discounted bags of apples with bruises or wrinkles, they’re perfect for cutting up!

I love crisps because they are fast, easy, cheap, tasty and very versatile. Almost any non-citrus fruit that needs to be used up can be added, be it fresh or frozen.

But mostly, I love making them because my late mom usually made one a week for the family – and they always seem like a little gift from her.
