A well known Italian restaurant ion Newcastle is now boarded up after it’s ‘sudden’ closure. And its a place that has been serving up tasty food in town for a decade.
When the bottom end of Eldon Square was turned into a dedicated food and drink area, both upstairs and downstairs, in 2015, ASK Italian was one of the first businesses to open up, with it going into a ground floor space and opening its doors that October, having previously had a home in The Gate a decade earlier. ASK is a famous chain will restaurants all over the UK, but, as of this week, its Newcastle branch is no more, with boards already up between the very much still open Smash Burger and Chit n Chaat when ChronicleLive walked past on Tuesday morning.
Signs on the boards confirm ASK’s closure, with customers being thanked for their custom and told that the nearest branch is now the one at the Metrocentre. The brief statement on the notice adds: ‘Thank you for dining with us over the years. It’s been a pleasure to be part of the community, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we have.’

There have been some significant changes in Eldon Square over the last 12 months, with ASK’s next door neighbour Chit n Chaat going into the former Tapas Revolution restaurant that had stood empty and much buzzed about darts venue Flight Club opening up across the way, having been a huge success in other cities.
Retail wise, new Next and River Island stores have opened their doors, after both high street giants moved from their old premises in the mall, with the new Nxt also seeing the launch of Bath & Bodyworks first ever branch in Newcastle.
