Bought a master touch 22” from a buddy for $75. Came with chimney, cover and a fresh bag of cowboy lump charcoal. Just needs a new grate. I hit it with the drill & wire brush then wiped down with olive oil and fired it up for my new to me cook and just made some burgers. Loved it! Only questions I have is Does this lid holder mount typically look like this in the last pic? It was scratching the lid so I used pliers to bend the corner back a bit. Also, any recommendations on temp gauges/probes? I’ve seen a few pics with upgraded lid or bottom container gauges. Cheers 🍻

The lid holder in your photo is indeed bent. As for scratches its going to get them from the holder over time so dont worry about it.

The first thing i would buy for the new to you kettle is the vortex. Most versatile tool you can have. Allso give b&b briquettes a try. Can get a 17 pound bag at wallmart for just under $10

Welcome to the Weber cult! There is no better smoking platform out there! Plenty of good ones, but none any better That lid holder is definitely messed up. Needs to be run correctly. Sounds like you did that. Definitely make or buy a vortex. It turns your kettle into a fabulous convection oven. Great for wings hamburgers and other things. Just remember that the outer side of the ring will cook faster than the inside. Temperature probe placement in the lid can be through the pinwheel because that will always be over the meat side and not the fire, or ride above the base of the lid is a good way to. What’s the probe right at the great level.
