A major company is relaunching a beloved Kansas City-based taco shell brand next month.General Mills announced Monday, March 16, the return of La Tiara taco shells. Kansas Citians lamented the loss of the shells in January 2025, when Gladstone Food Products stopped operations. But after an outcry from fans, General Mills bought the brand, bringing back not only the shells, but also more than 100 local jobs. General Mills noted that the “Please Bring Back La Tiara Taco Shells” Facebook group, which holds more than 20,000 members, helped drive their decision to revive the brand. “We’ve answered the call from an incredibly engaged group of local superfans,” said Meredith Nelson Uram, director of General Mills’ Mexican Business Unit, in a news release. “We’re not just bringing back a cherished product. We’re reviving a legacy, creating jobs, and — for the first time ever — making the crunch of La Tiara taco shell available to families across the country. We’re thrilled for the next chapter of La Tiara.” General Mills said La Tiara taco shells and seasoning will be available nationwide starting in April, exclusively at Walmart. The shells, available in yellow and white corn options, will have the same taste and texture, General Mills said. Along with the original seasoning, the company is also introducing three new flavors: chorizo, tinga and reduced sodium.
