As regulars come to terms with the fact that it’s no more, the replacement for well known Newcastle Italian restaurant ASK has been revealed. and it looks like we won’t have to wait too long for Dave’s Hot Chicken to open, as signs for it have already appeared in Eldon Square.
ASK was one of the first places to open in the Grey’s Quarter food and drink sector when the Newcastle city centre mall had a major redevelopment a decade ago and having been a hit in The Gate in town in the early-mid 80s. A chain that has successful branches across the UK, ASK has a presence in many major cities but, sadly will no longer have a presence in Newcastle, with its Eldon Square restaurant now closed.
When Chroniclelive walked the unit on Tuesday, boards had already gone up outside and, just 24 hours later they’d been covered in posters for Dave’s, a brand who are promising to ‘bring Nashville to the UK’ and have already opened in the likes of London and Sheffield. The back story of Dave’s is quite remarkable, having been started by a group of friends in American who scraped their money together to launch in a parking lot in East Hollywood in 2017.

They then got a huge boost when a reporter came and declared ‘East Hollywood’s New Late Night Hot Chicken Stand Might Blow Your Mind.’ with crowds them descending to see what all the hype was about. The billboards for Dave’s in Newcastle promise ‘the hottest chicken around’ with sliders, tenders and shakes’ on the menu.
And, as for when Dave’s will launch in ELdon Square, the hint that it won’t be too far away comes by way of the sign that reads ‘opening soon.’
