I’m upset that this is so profoundly a viable means to cook a steak. I know for a fact that every one of us here have ordered a steak from a genuine steakhouse and had it look worse than this one, right here. I didn’t even give it time to let the seasonings set in, just dusted it up as the air fryer was coming up to temp, and BLAM! Call up Guy Fieri because it was certified Flavor Town. Because there was no actual searing involved, none of the seasonings burnt. God dammit I hate this. I hate that I love this. If you are in a situation where a grill is not available, if you are in a dorm room/living situation where cooking appliances are scarcely available, or hell… even if you are just feeling lazy like I was- the air fryer is a perfectly reasonable means for one to cook a steak. On top of all of that, it was 8 minutes in total to cook, and no smoke in my kitchen.

Haha you totally got me!! I was about to say, whyyyyyy on earth would you be upset? It looks amazing!

But I wholeheartedly agree. It is so annoying and sometimes genuinely upsetting to me how good my air fryer steaks have turned out.

After all the years of blood, sweat, tears, and countless dollars in the form of ruined meat I put in learning how to perfect my steak-cooking game all by myself, this bargain center knock off air fryer I got from someone about to throw it away as they were moving out of their apartment comes along and does it PERFECTLY EVERY TIME?! ***AND*** it’s juicy asf?! 😠😡🤬 All while just simply sitting on the counter & humming 😤 ?

hahahaha this is a real convo I’ve actually had multiple times in real life, so yeah, I get it!

I do this all the time. Air fryer is magic. New York strips and just a bit thicker works like a charm. Dry brine the day before and you get a crust that is truly unfair amount of crackle.

  3. It’s just a small convection oven, of course it’ll cook a steak.

You can also get a grill plate for your air fryer, which might help get all actual sear. Or at least grill-like lines.

For the win. No smoke. No mess (Nobody cleans their air fryer)

Next try some bacon in the oven on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Put it in cold and set the oven to 375, thank me later.

I really would not have believed that came out of an air fryer.

I see Big Air Fryer has found its way to reddit

  8. Good for any meat as long as you don’t overload.

  9. FluteMontenegro

Did you even have to flip it? Or just 8 minutes straight sitting there? Pretty good

I do this from a pre seasoned steak I prepped up and froze, comes out so bomb I only do it for days I want steak but just to tired from the day to cook, 25 min at 420 flip at 13-14 min

  11. I did a strip in the air fryer the other night and my gf did not believe that’s how I cooked it. She refused to believe an air fryer could produce results similar to yours.

  12. I’ve tried this several times and while the inside is always tender and juicy, I never got anywhere near as good of a sear as this.. (using the highest temp and preheating etc) I’m wondering how you achieved this? Did you use the frozen steak method à la Mikhaila Peterson by any chance?

  13. Unexpected.

I thought it would be less tasty than on a grill. I mean there’s no smoke to aromatize the meat while it’s cooking.

  14. newaccounthomie

Maybe this defeats the purpose but I would still probably sear and baste it.

I cooked an in and half ribeye in the airfryer, best steak I ever had.

The air fryer is one of the greatest inventions of all time! Air fryer steak is fantastic, welcome to the cult 😉

  17. ohheybytheway

What kind of air fryer do you have? Because mine not doing this.

  18. KeepREPeating

Fried steak aren’t bad, it’s just a silly way to cook steak since the amount of work to start up a fryer.

But the air fryer wins all. Heath, cook, less odor in the house. Honestly the greatest cooking invention that became a home staple in the last decade. If it changes cooking instructions on packages, you know it become a new standard.

One of the best steaks I ever had I cooked in a little Ninja Oven/Air Fryer! Looks great!

  20. HalPal78

Last time I tried steak in an airfryer I got a gray wet blob. Did 400 on an unbranded airfryer and havent tried it since. However I do have a ninja now that seems to be an upgrade so maybe ill try again because of your post!

The air fryer is great. My preferred way is charcoal, but in bad weather where charcoal or the flattop ain’t happening, I do not hesitate to put it in an air fryer.

  22. Do it with frozen steaks.. Straight from the freezer into the air fryer set it to the hottest temp.. I put a light coating of oil and seasoning on first..

Comes out better then it should for the effort.

  23. Competitive-Army2872

I admit, this bothers me greatly as well.

  24. pumpupthevaluum

Hahaha the title bait and opening sentence. Great steak!

  25. cmonuspurz

I also do steaks in AF they turn out great every time yeah!

  26. pengouin85

I don’t get why anyone who has a decent bit of culinary know-how would find this upsetting.

I find this kind of stuff very exciting personally because it’s a new tool in my Arsenal.

    Up the Arsenal!

  27. CubanaCat

Did you flip it halfway? Or did you just put it in for 8 min? Looks great

  28. That_Girl31

Back when steak was cheaper and I was eating it at least once a week, I was always cooking it in my air fryer. Before I was a diehard charcoal grill only girl.
I did attempt to learn how to oven cook steak and ruined 2 or 3 and gave up. (Un)fortunately I’m probably a forever air fryer convert.

  29. siestarrific

Air fryers are legit, man. You can make tasty veggies as side dishes too or whip up some deep-fried Oreos as a dessert.

  30. AcidActually

I’ve been doing it for years. I just have been too afraid to tell anyone

  31. CyberHaxer

People used oven for steaks for ages. So why shouldn’t it work. Air frier is just a small oven.

  32. lcdroundsystem

This pisses me off but it looks like it’s enjoyable

  33. SomeKindaWonderer

Honestly, I cook everything I can in my air fryer. I basically rent a room and the kitchen isn’t ideal for me. So, everything in the air fryer. It’s amazing! I have learned how to cook so many different things in it. One of my favorites is steak and a baked potato.
