So my sister mixed pineapple+coco powder+ milk+heavy cream+honey all in unmeasured quantities…in an attempt to make ice cream-

Now it obviously tastes like bullshit and our mom is pretty angry cuz she wasted sm stuff, is there any way to fix it and make it taste good so my mom can calm down lol?

Scratch all that just noticed it was about taste. What does it taste like exactly?

Maybe try to make it into a custard? Measure how much this concoction weighs and find a custard recipe that has that amount of liquid used and prepare accordingly.

Your sister needs to do some research before attempting stuff like this, if wasting ingredients leads to your mother getting upset.

Edit – having said that, the enthusiasm is good to see.

The Rescue Mission: Heat it Up

    Strain it (If it’s chunky/curdled):
If the cream has separated, strain it through a sieve to get a smooth base, or keep the chunks if you prefer a rustic texture.

    Heat it slowly:
Pour the entire mixture into a saucepan over low-medium heat.

    Add Balance:
    ie. More Sweetener
Honey is good, but add brown sugar if you have it. It balances the cocoa bitterness better.

    Vanilla Extract: Add a teaspoon.

Salt: Add a tiny pinch of salt—this is crucial to neutralize the bitterness from the cocoa.

    Thicken it:
Stir in a tablespoon of cornstarch (mixed with a tiny bit of cold water first) to turn it into a pudding consistency.

    Cook:
Keep stirring until it bubbles and thickens.

    Result:
You will have a warm chocolate-pineapple pudding that actually tastes intentionally gourmet.

    Just throw it away, sis.

Not your monkeys, not your circus.

Just go replace the ingredients for mom. That’s her concern, not how that thing tastes.

  6. Can you buy your mom a new bottle of cream and honey, and have your sister pay you back? I think that will help more than making this thing edible

Mix some flour and eggs and just make crepes. Or waffles.

Experimentation is how great chefs are formed

Add sugar and blend to make smoothies

I’d probably divide it into a few bowls and try different things with each. You’ve got good recommendations here already, and I’d try the ones that make it a spicy sauce, and a custard.

Beyond that, though, I want to offer perspective. My daughter used to try and make “fun” recipes she found on social media, and there’s a lot of junk culinary mess out there looking pretty in pictures, so many of those experiments were flops. Use this as a teaching moment for your sister; to use a recipe, to make it a good one from a reliable source. Also, at her age, materials expense is a little more ambiguous than it’ll be when she’s spending her own money, so help her understand what adds up. For my daughter, using her babysitting cash to buy the expensive bits like the nuts and honey herself got her looking for less expensive alternatives, and using less of them to more effect. That daughter who loved to experiment in the kitchen as a kid now supports herself as a chef in a highly respected kitchen. You never know – your kid sister could be the next kitchen boss. Maybe reframe it like that for your mom. Materials are too expensive to waste, but so is curiosity and talent, and the opportunity to bond with your kids.

Maybe make some muffins or quick bread? Find a reliable recipe for banana muffins/banana bread and use this mixture to replace the oil, mashed banana, and sugar. Taste before you cook it!

I realize everyone is angry, however this is how people learn. The first time I tried making cookies I was 8 and I didnt understand all of the recipes so I winged it without asking because I wanted it to be a surprise for my parents. Well the cookies never actually cooked properly because I didn’t use the proper levening agent and melted the butter instead of softening it. This is when I started watching cooking shows and started to understand better because I wanted to be better at cooking.

I realize food is expensive but seriously, people make mistakes especially kids. This is a learning lesson to show her a video or a recipe for how to make ice cream next time.

As for how to save the mixture, if it’s too sweet, I’d try blending it into a milkshake with extra milk. If it’s the favor, maybe add cinnamon or some other spice to make it taste better.

With the bubbles, it sounds like she used fresh pineapple. The bromelain enzyme in the pineapple is digesting the protein in the cream. It’s not going to get better, as the bromelain will eventually curdle the cream.

You can try to inactivate the enzyme by heating the mixture. I’d aim for 80-85 C/175-185 F, and hold it at that temp for at least 5 min, 10 would be better. You don’t want to heat it higher than that, however, as a higher temp will cause the cream to separate/curdle, and the texture is very much a “yuck”.

Honestly, I think this is a lost cause, and I’d be hesitant to waste more ingredients trying to rescue it. The mixture could probably use some salt. If you have a blender, try blending a portion to see if it’s improved. A ripe banana may help, add a few ice cubes if it needs to be colder.

Your sister is 15. Does she not have access to the internet?? Five minutes reading the results of “How to make ice cream at home” would have made a huge difference in her approach.

I just asked my 12-year-old what she would do if she wanted to make ice cream and I wasn’t home. Her response: “check to see if we have cream, and then search for a video on the topic.”

Add 2lb of your sister and simmer for 45 minutes

No. This is a teachable moment for your sister. Let her learn from this.

Sounds like your sister is really into this. I suggest signing her up for a cooking class or have her get a job in a bakery. The experimentation sounds like she could be a great chef someday…, if she doesn’t kill someone first.

Tell your sis no more experimenting without first trying an actual recipe. The experimenting part comes from adapting that recipe after first trying the results. When my daughter was that age and even younger, that’s what she did. Eventually she was even cooking for me. She’s now 19 and in college, figuring out her own food hacks from her dorm. Looking for an apartment for next year so she can actually cook.

Blend with some red chilly powder and salt

  19. Moonbeamless

Freeze it in ice cubes. Add ice cubes as needed to to milk and make shakes for as long as the ice cubes last 🙂

U are a really kind big sister

You can try making it into a cake. Will need to add more ingredients to it though. And it might be a challenge. Maybe split that into two cakes layers. Then put a layer and add some icing out the other layer on top and then ice the whole cake.

Obviously I don’t know what it tastes like right now but perhaps sugar and coconut or something will help balance it into something edible.

Heres a couple recipe example you can follow:

Maybe coconut? Make it into some kind of tropical chocolate mix

  23. findingchupacabra

Throw a white box mix cake and some eggs in with it and bake it. You’ll get something edible. A whipped topping frosting would probably go well. Or bake in a Bundt and use a glaze.

  24. PetrockX

Sis needs cooking classes so she can learn to follow recipes. Angry mother isn’t going to teach her, it seems.

  25. Careless-Narwhal3738

Define bullshit. Is it too sweet, too bitter, grainy? Pineapple is highly acidic so it probably curdled the milk?

  26. CamachoBrawndo

Your sister is 15. She can learn how to google recipes and how to videos to cook. If she is being wasteful purely to rile your mother and doesn’t give af about the waste, then she needs to be cut off from the kitchen, she can get a job, and she can buy her own food. Until she is responsible for paying and understanding how even a handful of groceries adds up and can euin a budget, she can starve. 15 is still an age of impulse and not thinking shit through, but just being scolded isn’t enough. She needs accountability or to be forced to eat every bite.
