It’s kind of like a Romano American but with orange.
Powerful-Dragonfly-3
I have put actual orange juice on an Americano/ cold brew and is also pretty good
NotYourLawyer_4693
Wow. I love pineapple on pizza so I’ll try this too
YeGingerCommodore
Orange peel is great with coffee, any coffee cocktail I make gets some.

I do something like this during the summer! I make my iced americano with sparkling water, add 1oz of orange juice, and top with a sprig of mint.

15 years ago a Japanese café was adding a slice of lemon zest or a leaf of mint in their espresso and it was delicious

Orange peel in coffee?? Now I’ve seen everything.

One of my local shops does a cortado with orange infused maple syrup. It was so tasty I made my own syrup to replicate it at home!
Edit: I loosely followed [this](https://youtu.be/DyQrnkLE56I) video, although at this point it was a couple of months ago so I don’t remember it perfectly.
I let the maple syrup get to a simmer for a bit like she did, then put only orange peel in. Not sure if I did one or two oranges worth of peel.
I’m out of it at the moment, but I think I put about 1tsp in a cortado.

The girlfriend bought a pack of the trader Joe’s orange espresso tonic…wasn’t bad. So I tried it like this and it was a nice change especially as it’s warmed up and I want something iced

Citrus and coffee go better together way more than they should. The first time I tried making espresso romano, I thought it would just be sour because I was using a light roast coffee and lemon juice but it was unbelievably good. They just accent each other in all the best ways
dadydaycare
Coffee and citrus in general are way better together than they should be. It’s like the antithesis to toothpaste and orange juice.
TheKerj2
Yeah dude, summer time is all about espresso tonics with a little vanilla and an orange peel
StressedSalt
Yeah super common in asia too!
48Michael
Yup! I’ve done an espresso tonic with lime as well as orange with an actual orange! Also there’s some good orange bitters out there that are a nice touch too.
As always some will like it some will hate it!
Hope you enjoyed it, cheers!

Place in Nashville does black coffee, some cold foam, Demerara, and an orange peel. Amazing
_Bad_Spell_Checker_
Try lemon next time

Because it’s delicious. Also, it looks like and iced americano or even an americano with tonic water, which tastes waaaay better with a slice of lemon or orange
RedGobboRebel
My better half cringes, and I don’t claim it’s great. But too frequently, I make long shot of espresso (50-60g) with around a single shots worth of OJ (25-30g) when I’m in a rush out the door. It’s my goto when I only have time for nespresso. Don’t recall where I saw it, but it’s an odd one that stuck.
TurtleThroughTime
This is a very common Italian thing. Most espresso is served with either a lemon or orange peel.

Citrus and coffee are a wonderful paring. I’ll express an orange peel over my cappuccino and whip the rim with it. Same with espresso. The sour notes reduce bitterness and help intensify the sweet notes.
And even better for an americano or an espresso tonic.

A coffee shop in my old neighborhood used to make sunrises, where they mixed citrus or pineapple juice with espresso. A bit of an acquired taste, but I came around to really like them.
No-Supermarket-227
I make a lemon syrup and honey espresso tonic and it’s amazing!
liz_teria
Yes! Put a strip of orange peel in your milk when you steam it, then use it in a mocha. Amazing!

I’m skeptical because I find chocolate + orange flavors together repulsive. But I’m a weirdo I guess, as it seems like a popular combination.
I’m curious, coffee + orange enjoyers – do you like chocolate + orange?
Hungry-Strategy5874
Have you tried a Mazagran? It was shocking that lemon and coffee would work well together.
ricvallejo
There’s one coffee shop in my city that is always doing tonics and other interesting espresso drinks with fruit (especially citrus), jalapeño, lemonade, seltzer, etc. I love them all, especially on a hot summer day.
kro_celeborn
My cafe does a latte with maple syrup and orange bitters — pretty yum.
JoelB
I’ll pull a shot of espresso on club soda with ice in the summer and garnish it with an orange zest. It’s amazing!
iamthesmith
There’s a whole category of espresso based drinks like this! Popular in Korea especially. Have you tried espresso tonic yet?
CAP_TX
Yes, a twist of lemon (and do actually twist it to release the oils) into an espresso is a great add
Individual_Village47
Citrus and coffee go great together! In the US people freak out because we’ve been trained to drink burnt bitter coffees that need to be covered with sickly sweet dessert or to be “manly” with hot as hell super dark black coffee. 2 places I’ve worked at offer coffee shandy (and yes everyone thinks it’s alcoholic; just means with lemon/lemonade) and it’s so good! The number of people that straight up to my face say, “That sounds so gross/terrible!” is insane because we wouldn’t offer it year round if it didn’t sell and was actually good (plus your drink is honestly gross to me but I don’t say that to your face).
PattedWater
At home, if I’m using Ethiopian beans (Yirgs, Nekemte, etc) sometimes I’ll drop a lime leaf in my cup to sit for about 1-2 min. The citrus parameter does something magical to a cortado
nirvanka
That’s one of my favorites. Now try it with seltzer water instead of still. Chef’s kiss
Because unfortunately, pulling a shot of espresso over orange juice is good.. so the less intense version, is also good. Shouldn’t work but it does, I was upset the first time I tried it.
Thats_Mamiya_Purse
A couple drops of orange bitters can also be good in cold brew made from darker roasts.
Micheal_Noine_Noine
When I can, I squeeze zest peels into my espresso. Such a different and pleasant experience.

There was this place in St. Petersburg florida that served tiny shots of espresso with lime. It was pretty damn good

Chinese coffee chains have been doing these coffee / fruit drinks, including orange americanos, for years now.
batwingcandlewaxxe
The coffee stand in my old neighborhood did this. Orange and coffee is an excellent combination.
GranolaGirlG
Yes! A spritz of orange blossom on the lid… nothing like it
