Finally pulled the trigger!


Got tired of waffling back and forth and hit the “order” button on what seems to be a popular beginner setup, alomf with a bag of Lavazza Super Crema for seasoning and testing.

Took me 3 shots to get the ESP dialed in to roughly 36g in 30 seconds with a pretty decent shot on the Plus. Automatic milk frother worked fairly well for my first latte, which was already as good as the one I had this morning at the chain place.

Looking forward to what this setup can do with good beans and some experience. Thank you for all the good info!

    Over time if you’re satisfied with your Bambino Plus, you can get a better grinder.

    Lavazza beans are something I buy a few times a year from a Costco Business Center (you can use your regular membership) and they’re often fairly fresh.

    That said, it’s not remotely close to a good third wave roaster but if you’re making iced milky drinks, they’re perfectly decent beans. I can still get a decent crema and flavor after the bags been open for about 3 months in the summer.

    It’s a cardinal sin to say stuff like this in espresso circles but if it works… Okay, it’s not actually a cardinal sin but out of most of their portfolio these beans are quite nice. Milk chocolate notes, sweet raisin and a bit of brandy.

    If you’re going to use mass produced coffee to dial in and get your espresso skills a bit up or making sweet milky drinks for the summer or masses or cake soaks, Lavazza is a decent go-to brand.

    Welcome to the espresso world! Good on getting a grinder and whole bean.

    Find what you like, but also consider trying local roasters’ beans for this when you’re out and about! Anything can be espresso, once you have the means!
