One of Notting Hill’s most treasured pubs is set to reopen as a gastropub

One of Notting Hill’s most revered pubs is set for a reinvention as it prepares to reopen as a stylish gastropub, run by the same team behind one of West London’s trendiest restaurants. The Prince Edward, in Prince’s Square, lies in the heart of W2, just a short walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station.
Previously run by Hall & Woodhouse, The Prince Edward is about as traditional as a London pub can get, with leather sofas, low-hanging ceilings and a Victorian façade that is instantly inviting to customers.
Currently closed, The Prince Edward has now been acquired by the team behind Julie’s – a “modern” French restaurant tucked away on Portland Road in Holland Park – which plans to revitalise the business while retaining its vision of a “warm, characterful local pub”.

Julie’s owner, Tara MacBain, said: “The Prince Edward already has history, character and a loyal local following. Our role is not to reinvent it beyond recognition, but to restore its heart. We want this to be a pub people use constantly – for morning coffee, midweek suppers, Sunday lunch, or a spontaneous glass of wine.
“Julie’s has always been about warmth, personality and a sense of belonging. With The Prince Edward, we are bringing that same spirit to a true neighbourhood pub.”
Ms MacBain is being joined in the project by other partners from Julie’s – general manager Rupert Walsh and chef patron Owen Kenworthy, who has created a menu in the spirit of a classic British pub, with a focus on seasonal British produce and elevated pub classics including refined bar snacks, seasonal pies, fish and chips, rotisserie and grill-led dishes, and a Sunday roast set to become a local fixture.
The drinks programme will centre on classic pulled pints, a considered selection of independent and heritage breweries, classic cocktails and a wine list built around strong European relationships.
The pub will offer a relaxed destination by day and a convivial space by night. Locals and visitors alike will enjoy the signature hospitality, attention to detail and effortless style that have made Julie’s one of the area’s most beloved restaurants. The team will also open Little Julie’s, a café and wine bar in Holland Park, late spring.
The interiors are designed by Rosanna Bossom, whose work on Julie’s helped define its aesthetic. The Prince Edward’s original architectural features will be restored and complemented by warm timber, layered textures and heritage tones, creating a space that feels timeless rather than themed.
With Owen at the helm of the kitchen, Rupert leading operations, Tara guiding the wider vision, and Rosanna crafting the interiors, The Prince Edward is set to become a much-loved destination – a true West London pub with a distinctively Julie’s touch.
