A new restaurant offering build-your-own bowls with a Mediterranean-style twist, along with gyros and other regional offerings, opened Monday in downtown Bristol.

Customers at The Fresh & Green Plate on 118 Main St. can choose to either begin with a salad or a gyro before adding a choice of preferred proteins and toppings, which include eggs, cheese and dressings — the eatery offers specialty, homemade dressings such as “Avocado Green Goddess” and “Pomegranate Balsamic.”

Chef Debra Queen told Patch that the restaurant provides healthy, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and locally-sourced options, adding that The Fresh & Green Plate’s food is made fresh on location.

The restaurant’s Mediterranean character also extends to its fresh hummus offerings, including varieties such as roasted red pepper and white bean with basil and parsley. A number of natural juice options are also available, with flavors like rice and pineapple, tamarind and passion fruit.

The Fresh & Green Plate offers a series of specials as well, which include both a rotisserie chicken and a half chicken with rice and beans, along with various soups of the day.

The newly renovated eatery, which replaced the now-defunct Downtown Cafe, serves as a second recent contribution from owner Miledy Marmol to Bristol’s rapidly expanding downtown. She opened a Bristol location to another of her business ventures, the Golden Adult Day Center, next door at 120 Main St., which opened earlier this summer.

The Fresh & Green Plate will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, while offering truncated 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours on Friday and Sunday — the restaurant is closed on Saturday. Customers can order either in person or through The Fresh & Green’ Plate’s website.
